~~~WHAT A WÎCKÈD WORLD!~~~
EPISODE 9
I didn't bother to disturb her till she successfully got discharged. My husband and I sat her down in our room and began questioning her. Tiana and Samuel were also present that evening but we told them to excuse us.
"My daughter."
"My daughter."
She was still looking at the ground coughing.
"Amanda what's wrõng? I'm your mother for Christ's sake eh!" I said to her looking so bothered as I diligently raised her face up to face me.
"Amanda," my husband called out to her. "Daddy," she responded. "What's troubling you? We are your parents. You're no longer a child. Talk to me. Whatever it is, we can always find a way to fix it. Speaking up is the only way to prevent this illness from getting worse, or do you want a repeat of what happened?"
"Mummy, I... Mummy, I..." Amanda hesitated, her words caught in her throat. She began shedding tears.
"Please, Amanda, talk to me.. Talk naa! You're making me upset. How can a grown up girl like you be acting like a child. What happened to Ola?" I tried to keep calm as I spoke, but my frustration was was not letting.
Before I could continue, she abruptly opened the door and drove off, sobbing uncontrollably. The sound of her cries echoed in our ears as she disappeared from sight.
My husband was seething with anger and wanted to forcefully make her to speak, but I urged him to calm down, assuring him that I would handle the situation myself. The next day, I reached out to Melinda and shared the issue with her. She kindly offered to assist in coaxing out whatever Amanda was hiding, but I politely declined, emphasizing that as her mother, it was my responsibility to protect my children. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, she bid me farewell and departed. I later bought her a phone so she can be calling me and talking to me often.
Even during those periods when I wasn't feeling well, I still managed to push through and go to work. James, one of my colleagues, noticed that I wasn't my usual self and was quizzed. I confided in him, expressing my uncertainty about what to do. I admitted that I wasn't feeling well myself and couldn't pinpoint what was wrong with my daughter. I pleaded with him, sharing that I had been experiencing persistent headaches.
Within moments, James's concern deepened, and he insisted that I take care of myself and seek proper medical attention. He assured me that he would cover for me at work if needed and emphasized the importance of prioritizing my well-being and the welfare of my daughter.
His genuine care and offer of support provided a glimmer of hope and comfort in my distress. It was a reminder that in times of uncertainty and vulnerability, reaching out for help and leaning on others can make a world of difference.
With a newfound resolve, I expressed my gratitude for his understanding. Knowing that I had someone I could rely on in such a tumultuous time lifted a weight off my shoulders.
That same day I got that advise from James, I reached home and I couldn't find anyone at home. Although Samuel and Tiana were still in school and I closed early.
I called Lilian on phone and she apologized that she hurried off to check on someone that she'd be back soon. I told her no problem and tried Amanda's line but she wasn't picking up.
Around 6pm everyone was present in the house excluding Amanda. My husband and I became worried.
**What would she be doing outside?
**Had it been she was working we'd understand. Where could she be?"
Lilian pronounced that she hadn't seen her since morning.
"Mummy I use to see my sister quarreling with somebody. The person is tall." Samuel intervened as he walked up to me.
"Yes Mummy there's a time I usually see her crying and she don't use to allow us to show her our assignment whenever she's crying. She will get angry just chase us away." Tiana said, sucking her finger.
On hearing this I wasn't myself. Panic set in, and I started to pull at my hair in frustration. My husband, trying to provide some semblance of calm, urged me to take a deep breath, assuring me that we would find her.
"And you couldn't tell us. Why telling us now?" Why telling us now? I don't even understand the kind of children I have in this house" My husband fired at them.
"Daddy we use to forget. Daddy we are sorry." They said and went on their knees.
Feeling overwhelmed, my husband ordered them to leave, unable to bear their presence any longer. "You people should just go!" he commanded, his voice filled with a mix of anger and disappointment.
"Daniel hope nothing has happened to my daughter." "I don't want what happened to repeat itself. God please don't tell me that my daughter is dèàd."
**Amanda where are you!
**Amanda!
**Aarrrgggh!
I kept pacing around in anger, shedding hot tears.
Tiana returned, holding a folded piece of paper in her hands. She approached me, explaining that she had just found it in Amanda's room while trying to search for her pen. As I reached out to take it, my attention was abruptly shifted by an incoming call from Philip.
