~~~WHAT A WÎCKÈD WORLD!~~~
EPISODE 9
I didn't bother to disturb her till she successfully got discharged. My husband and I sat her down in our room and began questioning her. Tiana and Samuel were also present that evening but we told them to excuse us.
"My daughter."
"My daughter."
She was still looking at the ground coughing.
"Amanda what's wrõng? I'm your mother for Christ's sake eh!" I said to her looking so bothered as I diligently raised her face up to face me.
"Amanda," my husband called out to her. "Daddy," she responded. "What's troubling you? We are your parents. You're no longer a child. Talk to me. Whatever it is, we can always find a way to fix it. Speaking up is the only way to prevent this illness from getting worse, or do you want a repeat of what happened?"
"Mummy, I... Mummy, I..." Amanda hesitated, her words caught in her throat. She began shedding tears.
"Please, Amanda, talk to me.. Talk naa! You're making me upset. How can a grown up girl like you be acting like a child. What happened to Ola?" I tried to keep calm as I spoke, but my frustration was was not letting.
Before I could continue, she abruptly opened the door and drove off, sobbing uncontrollably. The sound of her cries echoed in our ears as she disappeared from sight.
My husband was seething with anger and wanted to forcefully make her to speak, but I urged him to calm down, assuring him that I would handle the situation myself. The next day, I reached out to Melinda and shared the issue with her. She kindly offered to assist in coaxing out whatever Amanda was hiding, but I politely declined, emphasizing that as her mother, it was my responsibility to protect my children. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, she bid me farewell and departed. I later bought her a phone so she can be calling me and talking to me often.
Even during those periods when I wasn't feeling well, I still managed to push through and go to work. James, one of my colleagues, noticed that I wasn't my usual self and was quizzed. I confided in him, expressing my uncertainty about what to do. I admitted that I wasn't feeling well myself and couldn't pinpoint what was wrong with my daughter. I pleaded with him, sharing that I had been experiencing persistent headaches.
Within moments, James's concern deepened, and he insisted that I take care of myself and seek proper medical attention. He assured me that he would cover for me at work if needed and emphasized the importance of prioritizing my well-being and the welfare of my daughter.
His genuine care and offer of support provided a glimmer of hope and comfort in my distress. It was a reminder that in times of uncertainty and vulnerability, reaching out for help and leaning on others can make a world of difference.
With a newfound resolve, I expressed my gratitude for his understanding. Knowing that I had someone I could rely on in such a tumultuous time lifted a weight off my shoulders.
That same day I got that advise from James, I reached home and I couldn't find anyone at home. Although Samuel and Tiana were still in school and I closed early.
I called Lilian on phone and she apologized that she hurried off to check on someone that she'd be back soon. I told her no problem and tried Amanda's line but she wasn't picking up.
Around 6pm everyone was present in the house excluding Amanda. My husband and I became worried.
**What would she be doing outside?
**Had it been she was working we'd understand. Where could she be?"
Lilian pronounced that she hadn't seen her since morning.
"Mummy I use to see my sister quarreling with somebody. The person is tall." Samuel intervened as he walked up to me.
"Yes Mummy there's a time I usually see her crying and she don't use to allow us to show her our assignment whenever she's crying. She will get angry just chase us away." Tiana said, sucking her finger.
On hearing this I wasn't myself. Panic set in, and I started to pull at my hair in frustration. My husband, trying to provide some semblance of calm, urged me to take a deep breath, assuring me that we would find her.
"And you couldn't tell us. Why telling us now?" Why telling us now? I don't even understand the kind of children I have in this house" My husband fired at them.
"Daddy we use to forget. Daddy we are sorry." They said and went on their knees.
Feeling overwhelmed, my husband ordered them to leave, unable to bear their presence any longer. "You people should just go!" he commanded, his voice filled with a mix of anger and disappointment.
"Daniel hope nothing has happened to my daughter." "I don't want what happened to repeat itself. God please don't tell me that my daughter is dèàd."
**Amanda where are you!
**Amanda!
**Aarrrgggh!
I kept pacing around in anger, shedding hot tears.
Tiana returned, holding a folded piece of paper in her hands. She approached me, explaining that she had just found it in Amanda's room while trying to search for her pen. As I reached out to take it, my attention was abruptly shifted by an incoming call from Philip.
~~~EFETOBORE~~~

EPISODE 3

~~~~~~~~
Where are you taking me to. Mona leave me Abeg I won go house. Please I don't even know how I got here in the first place. The last thing I could recall was me sleeping in my house... And then.... And then.... I.., I.., I..."
"Will you shût up! Instead of you to thank your God that I saved your life you're here running your mouth like parrot." One of them shouted, slapping him across his face and he quickly remained silent till they drove him to an unknown location.
They infiltrated the compound, and a group of men, around the same age as Efe, gathered in the small shade inside the compound that one could find it difficult to notice. However, some were considerably older than him, but the majority of them were armed with guns and topless with skins filled with stretch marks and tattoos. They resembled a notorious gang, likely associated with a secretive organization that remained hidden from public knowledge. Efe, witnessing the dire circumstances, instantly realized that his life was in grave danger. Overwhelmed with fear, he started pleading for their assistance, fully aware that he had never encountered such heavily armed individuals before.
"You're already part of us, and there's no turning back now. I saved your life for a purpose," the man that drove the car stated, removing his glasses and instructing Efe to address him as "Oga." Efe nodded frightfully.
"Rex, bring the boy inside and do what's necessary," Oga reiterated. "Yes, sir," one of them responded, temporarily discarding his firearm and fórcefully hauling him indoors. The remaining gangs continued to rough up Efe, striking his back and ripping his shirt with a knife until they successfully dragged him to the midst of others.
It appeared as though were having a large gathering inside and they were all sitting down on some expensive and golden chairs forming a circle, the man hauled Efe in their middle and they quickly remained silent fixing their gaze on me. They were eagerly smoking and taking some hard drugs/alcohol
"Waeti be your name!" One chubby muscular one questioned, belching directly on my face. As he kept giggling and sipping the alcohol on his left hand.
"Efe. My---My, My---My, name is Efe."
"How many years you dey?"
"I'm---I'm, 21yrs."
"You Sabi shoot gun? You Sabi kîll person?"
Efe remained silent, the question alone was making his whole body to vibrate coursing through his veins as he grappled with the question. The tension in the house was suffocating
He slapped him and questioned him again "You Sabi shôot gun?"
"Abeg. Abeg.. I won go house abeg. Please I don't know how I got here. Please to be sincere I don't know one thing that you people are talking about. Please.."
The man's eyes bore into Efe's, a mix of impatience and amusement evident on his face. Without warning, he delivered another harsh sláp across Efe's cheek, causing his head to snap sideways.
"I asked you a question, boy! Can you shoot a gun?" the man bellowed, his voice echoing through the air.
Efe winced from the pain, his cheek stinging from the impact, with saliva dripping from his mouth. Summoning his courage, he met the man's gaze and fórced himself to speak with more conviction. "Yes, yes, yes sir, I know how to handle a gun."
A murmur rippled through the room as the assembled members exchanged intrigued glances. Efe's response seemed to spark some interest among them.
The man said, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "It appears you might be of some use to us after all. This week will tell."
Relief washed over Efe, knowing that his answer had bought him a chance, albeit a precarious one. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of dangerous path he had just set foot upon. The gang seemed to be a fôrce to be reckoned with, and now he found himself reluctantly entangled within their web of power and control.
As the members of The Society continued their deliberation, Efe's mind raced, trying to formulate a plan to navigate the treacherous situation. They dragged him inside one of their rooms and threw some rice that was neatly tied in a small nylon at him and locked the door.
That was how they locked him there like an animal for three days tossing some meager stuffs like groundnut, oranges and banana of which kept him alive. The fourth day they released him and prepared him for battle, informing him that they had a family that they intend to rob at night.
Efe continued to struggle in comprehending the intentions of The Society, until the appointed time arrived. Five members were provided with individual guns and masks, each assigned a specific task. Recognizing Efe’s relative inexperience in this dangerous game, they informed him that he would receive instructions when the time came. They entered Inside one particular dark car and drove to the man's compound.
Sadly the gate was locked because it's late, so the five of them organized themselves and climbed the fence. Efe's mind was clearly not in their stupîd mission but clearly looking for numerous ways to escape but how could he do that when all their eyes were on him and his gun was not even loaded. One beautiful young lady was sighted outside, tossed away some water and began heading back inside. Our commander instructed the four of us to trail her.
~~~EFETOBORE~~~

EPISODE 2

~~~~~~~~
Kate pulled out some duck feathers and crossed them against her lips biting them firmly with her teeth. She circled the egg around her brother's head three times before smashing it upon his face. The unexpected impact caused Efe to instantly lose his sanity(ran mád), causing him to dash out of the house in nothing but his bare shorts. Upon hearing the commotion, Efe's mother woke up abruptly and rushed to the scene, only to be astonished by her son's absence.
Unbeknownst to her, Kate had already discreetly swept away the egg fragments, and even cleaned the areas that had been stained by the egg using a small mop conveniently placed by the TV set. Sensing her mother's presence, kate decided to play the part of an innocent sleeper until her mother tapped her gently and inquired about her brother's whereabouts.
"I'm not sure. Maybe he went outside to ease himself. Mama don't worry too much, he's capable of taking care of himself. Mom, you can go back to sleep. I'll try and talk to him," Kate said, feigning innocence and acting as if she had no knowledge of his whereabouts and also using style to hide the feathers under her skirt.
"Kate, please, when he comes back, talk to him. You know he's my only son. The Efe I know would never leave the house at this hour, it's almost 12:30pm. I've been busy all day yesterday, and my entire body is in pains. I need some rest. You know we're doing all these things for you kids. We only want the best for you. Please help me talk to him when he returns. If possible, tell him to come meet me because I need to have a conversation with him," his mother pleaded, showing signs of exhaustion as she loosened her wrapper and tightly knotted it around her waist.
Kate nodded in agreement and assured her mother that she would do exactly as instructed before storming off to her room to continue her sleep. Sandra was also awake in her room but Kate wasn't sure if she saw her on not.
The following day, news of Efe's disappearance unraveled, causing those who knew him to frantically bègin searching for him. His mother wept continuously, unable to find solace. His father, though burdened by the distressing news, still managed to go fishing because it was the only way to put food on the table, but his catch was meager as his mind was preoccupied with thoughts of his missing son.
A few weeks later, Mr. Ayoda, a respected community leader, approached Efe's parents with dire information. He relayed that he had heard their son had been discovered running nàked through the streets, seemingly afflicted by insanity. Shocked by the News, Efe's mother fáinted, overcome by the overwhelming news. However, it was Kate who was the first amongst them to break down in tears.
That same week, during one fateful night, Sandra, the eldest of the siblings, lay in bed, her health deteriorating to the point where she was in a near-comatose state, struggling to articulate her words. Throughout that week the nurse only visited her once due to financial issues from her parents. In the midst of her vulnerability, Kate approached her with a mischievous grin on her face. Sandra, with her cracked voice, managed to utter, "I know what you did." On hearing that Kate annoyingly held her by her neck and began strangling her to dèáth so she wouldn't expose her secret.
However, her mother's footsteps caused her to rapidly lose her grip, reminding Sandra that if she wants to dîe, she should reveal her secret. Due to that fear, Sandra remained shût.
As days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Efe remained lost with no trace of his whereabouts. The family's situation grew increasingly dire, and they struggled to support themselves. There were days when their mother had to resort to begging for food just to ensure they could eat. Meanwhile, their father faced his own misfortune when he was bîtten by a snèke during one of his fishing expeditions. The venômous bîte resulted in a swollen leg, rendering him unable to provide for the family as he used to.
Tragically, Sandra's health deteriorated further, and the lack of money to afford vital medications ultimately led to her passing away. Amidst the struggle, Kate took a different path. She decided to start her own business known as 'hookup' whereby men would seek her with the intentions of having sèx and, she'd get paid making her to spend more time outside of the house, neglecting her family responsibilities. Her presence no longer brought warmth or joy to their once vibrant home. During these challenging times, their mother's face bore the weight of endless sorrow. She cried throughout the day, tirelessly seeking assistance and domestic support to ensure her husband's well-being.
****Back to Efe
Efe found himself in an unfamiliar shrine hidden deep within a dense bush. As he regained consciousness, he noticed three men wearing glasses who seemed to be restraining him, their firm grip still holding him in place. The native doctor offered him some strange water to drink of which he declined but they fórced him to drink it. The men hauled him in their car, puzzled and uncertain about the events that had just transpired. Although efe was finding it difficult to understand their dialect but he could recall that they appreciated the native doctor by handling him some bundles of new Cash(Thousand naira notes wrapped in bundles), they later signaled him to remain shût before they drove off.
~~~WHAT A WÎCKÈD WORLD!~~~

EPISODE 8

"You know these are children you're dealing with, not adults. How do you intend to handle them with their headaches? why are you so eager to get this job?" My husband questioned Jack. Just then, Melinda entered through the gate with a lady I had never seen before. She was wearing a short, well-fitted pink gown and appeared slightly overweight.

"Courage afa Na?"
"Melinda I'm fine oo. Who be this one wey you bring come today?"
"Daddy good afternoon!" She greeted and my husband responded.

"Regarding what you told me the other day, this is my friend Lilian. She currently doesn't have anything to do, so I decided to bring her to you to see if you can help her."

"Oh, it's actually the same thing we were discussing with this boys. Lilian, where are you from?" I asked her.

"I'm from Edaya, Cross River State. My dad is late and mother is still in the village. I've been staying in this state with one of my friend for months. Although I was once a single mother but I lost my child because I couldn't have enough money to take her to the hospital when she was sick. I tried all the local herbs I could think of but none of them worked. I'm currently 24yrs old."

In the middle of our conversation, Amanda and the children hurried outside, expressing that they were hungry. Moved by their situation, my husband handed me some cash from his pocket and I gave it to Melinda asking her to purchase three plates of rice, to share with them. Melinda obediently took the cash and left to fulfill the task.

Curiosity struck me when I noticed the way Ola and linian were exchanging glances. Sensing something might be amiss, I couldn't help but ask Ola, "Ola, do you know her? There seems to be a connection between you two." My suspicion grew as I observed their interactions.

"Oh, umm, kind of... Although that's in the past," he replied with an extravagant smile, leaving me intrigued by his response.

"Sweetheart, tell me what you want me to do. It seems like one of them will have to stay," I said, my words laced with a mixture of frustration and helplessness. My husband remained quiet, carefully studying both Jack and Lilian, before instructing them to stand in front of him..

"Amanda who do you want to be our maid?" I asked her jokingly and she ran at the speed of light to hug Lilian by her waist.

"Jack, my daughter has made her decision o. But don't worry, we will provide you with some financial assistance to help you start a small business of your own. Is that acceptable to you?" I asked him, hopeful for his response.

"Emmm. Emmmm. Ok. Ok madam." he stammered, uncertainly. Melinda arrived promptly and handed them the food, and I directed them to go inside and eat. Soon after, my husband got up and departed. I accompanied Ola and co outside the gate, assuring Jack that my husband would reach out to him in due course before they left.

Ever since I brought Lilian on board, I dedicated a month to observe her closely. Making me to be closing early from work. During that period, I noticed her outstanding performance in working with the children and her active engagement with them. She went above and beyond by not only preparing them for school but also assisting them with their assignments unlike ola who wasn't friendly with them.

From what she told me about her education, she said her parents didn't have money to sponsor her which made her to discontinue her studies after basic 6 and began hustling for herself. These words struck a chord within me, and I felt a strong desire to assist her. In response, I decided to increase her salary, to which she humbly knelt down to express her gratitude. I reassured her that there was no need to worry, as long as she remained by my side, she would not endure any hardships.

After about four months of Lilian staying in my house, I began to notice that some money was going missing. I never suspected my children or Lilian to be involved in any theft, but out of concern, I decided to confront Lilian and asked her if she knew anything about it. To my surprise, she sincerely confessed that she had no idea about the missing money. I chose to let the matter go and give her the benefit of the doubt.

However, there was another instance where I started to feel suspicious that something was amiss. On this particular day around 2pm, Melinda and I went out to check on someone, and as we were returning we parted ways. From outside the gate, I noticed Ola and Lilian engaged in a heated argument near my husband's car. Standing firmly at the gate, I observed the tense situation, it seemed as though Ola was pressuring Lilian to do something against her will. Unable to comprehend the situation, I intervened and shouted, "Ola! I don't understand. What is happening here? I thought my husband have settled you and Jack" "Madam sorry abeg. It's just a little misunderstanding.

Ola greeted me, apologized and walked away without looking back. Feeling embarrassed, Lilian hurriedly went inside the house. Curious about what had transpired, I follõwed her and asked her what the issue was. She replied that it was a personal matter. However, I reassured her that if there was anything troubling her, she could confide in me. In the same week as the incident, Amanda fell gravely ill. Concerned for her well-being, I immediately took her to the hospital where the doctors diagnosed her with depression. They explained that there were certain things troubling her mind, and a nurse advised me to have a sincere and open conversation with Amanda once she recovered to uncover what was troubling her. The nurse warned that if I didn't address the issue promptly, a similar incident could potentially happen again which might lead to her.

~~~WHAT A WÎCKÈD WORLD!~~~
EPISODE 7
"Amanda! Amanda! Amanda are you not the one I'm calling!" I tried calling her back, still quizzed by the situation but it appeared that she was not paying attention.
"Ola and co were just standing there like a log of wood. "Why did she run after sighting the both of you? Ola did you threaten her or something? You were the one that had been staying with us for a while now" I questioned them as I dropped the remaining beans and stood up.
"Madam I was even surprised. The thing shock me Aswear." Ola muttered feeling quilty. "Fôllów me." I told them, took the plates from the ground and we all went inside.
Upon entering the living room, I noticed Amanda crouched and huddled behind the last piece of furniture on my left. She had pulled her knees close to her body, clutching her gown with both hands.
"Amanda! Amanda! Amanda!" I called out, but she remained silent. Frustration grew within me. "Amanda, are you ignoring me? Since when did you suddenly become insubordinate?" Angrily, I yelled and slàppéd her on the left side of her face, causing her to stand up and burst into tears..
"Ehhn Ehhn Ehhn, crying won't resolve the situation at hand. You threw away the food that I purchased with my hard-earned money without even bothering to explain why! What mother would be pleased with such behavior?"
"Mummy, I'm scared of him. He seems familiar, I'm not comfortable anytime he's around. When I saw him, fear overwhelmed me to the point where I couldn't control myself and ended up getting rid of the rice. Mummy, I'm truly sorry but I can serve another one for you" Amanda uttered, her eyes fixed on Ola and later turned to me as she wiped away her tears and sank to her knees.
"Ola, please tell me the truth. Why is Amanda scared of you?" I asked, my voice filled with concern. Ola shrugged casually, trying to downplay the situation.
"I really don't know. Kids get scared sometimes, you know," he replied nonchalantly. However, frustration began to take hold of me. "Amanda I look like a ghost to you? Is it because of my appearance? I may have changed a little, but deep down, I'm still the same Ola who used to play hide and seek with you. Nothing has really changed," Ola teased, hoping to lighten the mood. Yet, Amanda remained silent, tears still streaming down her face as she cleaned them.
"You people can go. I'll call you later. Jack as for that stuff. I already have your cóntàct I'll inform you sooner or later." I told them.
"Madam thank you. Madam thank you. Thank you o. I really appreciate." He prostrated on the ground thrice, stood up and left.
"Amanda we have talk but for now, Tiana and Samuel have closed from school. Take this money for your transport. Go and pick them up." I instructed, handed her the cash and she left.
Amanda had recently completed secondary school and was still residing at home, mainly taking care of the children. My husband suggested that she stay with her elder sister, Aunt Lisa, for a while before thinking of furthering her education. However, I insisted that she stay with us for a while longer until the children reached a certain age. Despite my decision, the workload remained overwhelming for me to handle alone.
With both my husband and I being occupied with our jobs, the maintenance of our large house became quite challenging. Even just sweeping the living room felt like a difficult task, not to mention mopping the four toilets and scrubbing the floors. Additionally, there were laundry and other domestic chores that Amanda couldn't manage single-handedly. It was during this time that the idea of hiring Jack came up.
Even the contact he wrote for me on a piece of paper the other day, I had misplaced it. I had to look for him or better still, hire someone else to do the job.
I bumped into Ola one weekend in the market. I had just purchased some meat and ingredients for a fruit salad, as my daughter had plans to cook fried rice and salad that day. "Good morning, Madam," Ola greeted, his forehead glistening with sweat alongside with his blue outfit.
"Morning. What about the your friend?"
"Jack is just at home. Life don tire am. Sometimes na me dey give am food chop sef. No help from anywhere had it been his parents were still alive it would have been better at least e for still get person wey dey help am but like this. Nothing nothing. "
"Can you bring him to my house tomorrow evening? Tomorrow's Sunday and I'll definitely be around, however, the number he wrote for me the other day had been misplaced" "Rest assured madam. I won't disappoint." He assured.
"You know I don't like anyhow people o. Which is why I want to be around, if possible take my time to scrutinize him before giving him the job. I know you, but I don't know him. Hope you understand?"
"I understand madam." He said, nodding his head. "Alright then. Take care I need to be going. My children are waiting for me."
I greeted him, hopped in one of the bikes that was heading in my direction and left. I got home and handed the meat to Amanda and she prepared the food.
The following day immediately we close from church, I got a call from an unknown number that happens to be ola informing me that they're at my gate but no one is responding. I told them to hold on that I'd be there shortly.
I drove there with my car and instructed Amanda to take the children inside.
"Oh you're the jack that my wife was telling me about? My husband questioned.
"Yes sir. Yes sir."
"I heard you had no parents. I'm sorry about that. I know it's not easy. So what have you been using to help yourself before now?"
"I'm just an ordinary hustler," he confessed, with sadness evidence in his voice. "I worked tirelessly to ensure that I put food on the table, and there were days when all I could afford was soaked garri. Some nights, I went to bed on an empty stomach," he admitted, his appearance reflecting the hardships he had endured. His hair was totally tough. As for Ola, he remained a silent observer, absentmindedly cracking his fingers.
~~~WHAT A WÎCKÈD WORLD!~~~

EPISODE 6

"Philip what are you trying to do? My husband will never try such! Are you planing on ruining my marriage?"

"Oh oh oh. So as I've told you, I'm now the bad person abi! It's alright. Maybe I shouldn't have told you in the first place."

"Wait... Wait.. Can you explain how the girl in person looks like. Is she tall?"

"Courage, whenever you're ready to talk, you can always reach out to me. This is not something we should discuss over the phone," he said, ending the call. Given the seriousness of the situation, I was even afraid to contact him. "My husband would never cheat on me. What is this man trying to do?" "No, this couldn't be true. After losing our son, he would still have the audacity to bring another woman into our home?" "Well, I guess I'll just sit back and observe. Time will reveal the truth."

I returned to the house after spending some days with them. Given the ongoing crisis, I made the difficult decision to resign from my job and fully embrace my role as a mother at home. While my husband continued to work, I dedicated myself to closely monitoring our child. Simultaneously, I kept a watchful eye on my husband to determine if there was any truth to Philip's accusations.

I temporarily suspended Ola of his duties and informed him that I was no longer as busy as before, indicating that I could handle the house chores on my own for the time being. However, I made it clear that in the event of an overwhelming workload due to additional responsibilities with the children, I would reach out and ask for his assistance again.

Ola never wanted to leave but I told him he had to, making him to understand that I don't know who to trust with my children that I don't want what happened to repeat itself. He later accepted the decision and collected the remaining portion of his salary for that month before departing.

Everything started to fall into place for me except for Philip who usually disturbs my line with calls. I embraced my role as a mother at home, ensuring that my daughter was given the care and upbringing she deserved. With this in mind, I made the decision to transfer her from her previous school to a new one where I had complete confidence in the quality of education and care she would receive. She began her journey in Primary 1, and although the school administrator pleaded and begged for her return, I stood firm in my decision. I made it clear that my decision was final, and to my relief, my husband supported and stood by my side..

Two years later, I became prègnant again. Amanda, our daughter, was around 9 years old. During those years, I devoted my time to being a stay-at-home mom, cherishing the precious moments with Amanda. However, tragedy struck when I lost the baby during childbirth.

I became pregnant for the third time, and in my heart, I made a solemn vow that if anything were to happen to my child this time, I would not attempt pregnancy again. It seemed as though fate had determined that I was meant to have only Amanda as my child. However, by the grace of God, all my silent prayers were answered, and I was blessed with twins - a baby boy and a baby girl. That was when Amanda was thirteen and still in secondary school.

When Tiana and Samuel reached the age of four, an opportunity presented itself for me to secure a new job. Melinda directed me to Philip's friend from our church which informed me about a job with a higher salary compared to my previous job. It was also mentioned that transportation and meals would be covered by the company. I discussed the opportunity with my husband, and he gave me his approval, stating that it would be beneficial for me to be productive and engaged rather than staying at home all day.

But I tried explaining to him that it was because of the children. He pronounced that Amanda is now old enough to watch over the children and be dressing them up for school and I took his advice and resumed work.

One day, while I was in the compound, meticulously selecting beans during the afternoon, Ola suddenly entered the house accompanied by a young boy appeared to be around 22 years old. It struck me how much Ola had grown. He had transformed into a man, towering with a well-groomed beard and a broad chest. Despite their serious expressions, I greeted them warmly. Sensing something amiss, I inquired about the matter at hand that seemed to be bothering them both.

"Ola, longest time. How's your parents?"
"Madam they're fine o. Madam this my friend Jack. He has been struggling with life right from the very beginning and...." I halted ola.

"Leave him; let him talk. Allow me to hear from him," I instructed him as his friend quickly dropped to his knees and began pleading and speaking.

"Madam, I am starving. Madam, I am starving. I would like to work with you, assisting with cleaning your house, washing your clothes, and other household chores. Madam, whatever you are willing to pay me, I will accept. Currently, my bank account has nothing, and I have neither a father nor a mother. Madam, please, madam abeg," he continued to plead, this time prostrating himself on top of the sand.

"Please, get up...get up...it's alright. I will reconsider because Ola had previously worked with me and he demonstrated great diligence and hard work. However, give me some time to think about it. Please provide me with your contact information," I told him.

"Amanda...where is the rice that I asked you to bring? The rice is not ready yet! How many hours does it take you to cook that rice, huh?!" I shouted, and she hastily responded, "Mummy, I'm coming."
