The excitement is unmatched when advocacy yields positive results.
The footprint of His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State (Pastor Umo Eno) towards inclusion is far notable and spontaneously contagious across leadership.

Last weekend, I had a dual capacity representation (Myself and the S.A on Disability Matters, Mrs. Nnene Bassey) in Ibibio Ibom LGA, where I witnessed the presentation of grant support for businesses of persons with disabilities, which would spur them to economic independence as they showcase ability in disabilities.

The Member Representing Ibibio Ibom LGA in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Moses Essien ( also Chairman of the House Committee on Health), provided this support amongst other great projects he had executed, which he thought to bring inclusion, having promised the same during an advocacy appeal.

His passion weighed in the appointment of a Personal Assistant on Disability Matters in Ibiono Ibom LGA, #50,000 to 2 persons with disabilities who showcased their products, presentation of mobility aid (wheelchairs) and a business grant of #1.7 Million of which his friends and colleagues supported.

This act of inclusion is highly applauded and calls for the attention of other House Members and relevant stakeholders, to see the need to create an enabler environment for persons with disabilities to strive through inclusive services and programs, laws, policies and frameworks to aid the actualization of equal opportunity.

Social Inclusion is a must in Society if all groups of persons must be factored into the development programs thereof.
To this end, intentionality is premium in mainstreaming the concerns of all persons.
On this day, I represented the disability community and the Draft disability bill committee (as the Chairperson) set up by the Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs and presented a position paper in the AKSHoA towards the holistic integration of international standards in line with the UNCRPD which Nigeria ratified in 2007
and the passage of the Disability Bill to end the discrimination of persons with disabilities and respect all inherent Rights.

The importance of improving the regulatory environment for CSO operations was indeed a necessity and could not be overemphasized.
It was an insightful learning with great minds.

It cannot be ignored that children and youth with disabilities are one of the most marginalised groups in the world and those who live in rural areas and indigenous communities are further disadvantaged

🌎 Across the global community, children and young people with disabilities face discrimination, exclusion, and underrepresentation.

🌍 Their voices often unheard and disregarded, their visibility limited, and they are systematically excluded from critical decision-making processes that shape their lives.

🌏 Youth with disabilities encounter formidable challenges, including a lack of support, investment, and acknowledgment in their pursuits of leadership, advocacy, and activism.

🌎 These obstacles undermine their autonomy and diminish their impact within the realms of disability rights and youth empowerment movements.

🌍The human rights of children and youth people with disabilities should not be denied or disregarded.

This side event will amplify the pivotal role of children and youth with disabilities in shaping a more disability rights inclusive future within the Commonwealth. It will highlight initiatives led by youth with disabilities, focused on enhancing rights, inclusion, advocacy, leadership, and capacity building and Call To Action. .
