Golden Minds Development Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to enlightening minds, empowering communities, and fostering a world where knowledge and development pave the way for a golden future, partnered with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Akwa Ibom State, and the Office of the Wife of the Transition Committee Chairman, Ikot Abasi LGA, to promote menstrual health and wellbeing among students in Ikot Abasi LGA.

Our mission is to catalyze societal transformation by equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive sustainable development and innovation. In line with this mission, our team of experts, along with our partners, carried out a comprehensive Menstrual Health Workshop at Okon Comprehensive Secondary School and Secondary Commercial School, Ibekwe, on 28th May, 2024.

During the workshop, our team provided detailed information on menstrual health, hygiene, and management, and educated the students on how to calculate their menstrual cycles. We also exposed them to policies prohibiting the stigmatization of persons menstruating and provided contact information for the state and local government Adolescent Desk officers, who are available to offer support and guidance at any time.

Our goal is to provide accessible, high-quality educational resources and training to underserved communities, create platforms for knowledge exchange and skill development that inspire action and change, and build a network of informed citizens who are empowered to contribute to their community's growth. This workshop is a testament to our commitment to achieving these goals and promoting menstrual health and wellbeing in our communities.

We are grateful for the collaboration and support of our partners, who share our vision of a world where knowledge and development paves the way for a golden future. Together, we can make a difference and empower individuals and communities to reach their full potential.

In rural communities, access to menstrual products is a luxury many cannot afford. Women and girls often rely on makeshift solutions like cloth, leaves, or even cow dung to manage their periods. Some even resort to harmful practices like sitting on hot stones to aid blood flow, leading to infections. Others feel forced to exchange sexual favors for money to buy pads.

Uduak, a 14-year-old girl from a rural village, experienced this firsthand. She used cloth during her period, which often leaked and caused her to feel embarrassed and ashamed. One day, she noticed a burning sensation while urinating and was diagnosed with a UTI.

But there is hope! Golden Minds Development Community is dedicated to promoting menstrual wellbeing and breaking the silence around menstruation. This World Menstrual Hygiene Day, May 28, 2024, we're hosting an event at two secondary schools in Ikot Abasi LGA. Join us for:

- Menstrual Health Workshop
- Distribution of 500 Pads and Deodorants
- Donation of 300 Writing Materials to Male Students
