Monkeypox is a rare disease similar to smallpox caused by the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox Virus (MPV) can spread person-to-person with any kind of close, skin-to-skin contact, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, or age, including children. Anyone can get MPV. MPV can also spread between animals and from animals to people.
Monkeypox can be spread from the time symptoms start until the rash has healed, all scabs have fallen off, and a fresh layer of skin has formed. The illness typically lasts 2-4 weeks.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Monkeypox symptoms usually start within 3 weeks of exposure to the virus. .People with monkeypox get a rash that may be located on or near the ge****ls (p***s, testicles, l***a, and va**na) or a**s (bu****le) and could be on other areas like the hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth.
The rash will go through several stages, including scabs, before healing.
The rash can initially look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy.
Other symptoms of monkeypox can include:
-Fever
-Chills
-Swollen lymph nodes
-Exhaustion
-Muscle aches and backache
-Headache
-Respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough)
TREATMENT
Monkeypox is usually a self-limited disease with symptoms lasting from two weeks to four weeks. Most people with monkeypox get better on their own without treatment. Following diagnosis, your healthcare provider will monitor your condition and try to relieve your symptoms, prevent dehydration and give you antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections if they develop.
