*Artificial Intelligence in Medical Coding and Billing*
AI is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robotic system to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term often describes systems development with intellectual processes similar to humans, such as reasoning, discovering meaning, generalizing, or learning from past experiences.
Since the 1940s, when the digital computer was developed, it has been demonstrated that computers can be programmed to carry out complex tasks, such as discovering proofs for mathematical theorems or playing chess, with excellent proficiency.
However, despite advancements in computer processing speed and memory capacity, no programs can match human flexibility in broader domains or tasks requiring extensive everyday knowledge. Nevertheless, some programs have achieved performance levels comparable to human experts and professionals in specific tasks, making artificial intelligence applicable in various fields, including medical diagnosis, computer search engines, and voice or handwriting recognition.
AI is an electronic device that can take in data and process it to make a logical decision. AI technology is developed to create computer systems that can perform tasks that require human intelligence. There are two types of artificial intelligence: strong and weak. Strong AI refers to a system that can carry out tasks that a human can do. Most AI examples fall under weak or narrow AI (or ANI), as they are designed to perform specific tasks or sets of functions.
