Attitude as a Lifestyle 🌈❤️
SUMMARY From My Book A NEW START...
ATTITUDE
Psychologists realise that we must now look at how people think.
There's an area of psychology called "COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY." Research shows that when people change their thoughts, it changes the neuro chemistry in their brains. And so, they are starting to work on helping people to change their thought processes, which was exactly what I needed.
MOST OF OUR FEELINGS COME FROM WHAT WE TELL OURSELVES... WE DON'T FEEL BAD BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED; WE FEEL BAD BECAUSE OF WHAT WE TELL OURSELVES HAPPENED.
“Thoughts affect feelings, behaviour, and our body.”
“Studies show that for every 1 minute you are angry,
you can suppress your immune system for 1 hour.”
A doctor at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) studied the activity of the brain in 10 women under three conditions:
1. When they were thinking happy thoughts
2. When they were thinking neutral thoughts
3. When they were thinking sad thoughts
• During happy thoughts, the limbic system just cooled down, not doing much activity.
• During the sad thoughts, the limbic system was working up. What is the limbic system responsible for? EMOTIONS.
Worry profoundly influences every bodily function.
The Vagus Nerve controls several essential functions:
Regulates your sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous system (your body's ability to rest/relax/de-stress).
7 Ways to tone your vagus nerve:
1. Slow, rhythmic breathing from your diaphragm
2. Humming: did you know your vagus nerve is connected to the vocal cords?
3. Cold rather than hot exposure: cold showers, cold weather, etc.
4. Meditation on Gods word
5. Exercise
6. Massage
7. Balance your gut microbiome. Healthy gut bacteria creates a positive feedback loop through the vagus nerve, increasing its tone.
Taking a natural probiotic (flaxseed/linseed) can help increase healthy bacteria in the gut and support the vagus nerve.
To remedy worry, one must acquire the habit of hopefulness.
