*Buhari's* *Passing* :

Following news of the death of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari vis-a-vis his huge diverse contributions during his tenure as Nigeria's President in cancer prevention and control .
The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi has directed the following:
1. All NCS WhatsApp Platforms should be frozen for 24hrs from 10.00am today, Monday, 14th July, 2025 to Tuesday, 14th July, 2025. This is to mourn the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

2. That ,the picture of the ex President Muhammadu Buhari should be used as DP of all our National Platforms until after his burial as a mark of respect. *All the NCS State Chapters should note and implement.*

3. The NCS President would be represented at his burial in Daura tomorrow, and to pay a Condolence Visit to the Emir of Daura, HRH. Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq.

4. The NCS National Secretariat has been mandated , to Communicate an official letter of Condolences to his wife; Aisha Buhari, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , Executive Governor of Katsina State; Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D, the Nigerian Armed Forces and HRH. Alhaji Faruq Umar Faruq, Emir of Daura.

5. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi Amin.

The President/ CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) , Prof. Abidemi Omonisi mourns the Death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President/ CEO of NCS has expressed condolences on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Prof. Omonisi mentioned that, the former President Muhammadu Buhari was very committed to the fight against cancer . He inaugurated the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority ( NSIA) and Lagos University Teaching Hospital ( LUTH) state - of - the- art Cancer Centre, Sign into law the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment ( Establishment) Act of 2017 and appointed the Pioneer Director- General, funded the Cancer Health Fund ( CHF) , designated Six Federal Tertiary Health Institutions as Oncology Centres of Excellence among others.

These efforts will have a lasting impact on Nigeria's Oncology landscape . The NCS President's tribute reflects the former President's uncommon commitment in improving treatment outcomes for cancer patients and survivors.

The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society extended condolences to his immediate family, the President of the Federal Government of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the people of Daura , friends and associates.

The NCS President, on behalf of the National Executive Council and the entire Cancer Stakeholders in the country enjoins the ex-President's family and loved ones to bear his demise with fortitude, while praying for Allah to forgives his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi Amin" the President added.

The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society Visits Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos: Called for Governments Support to Private Oncology Centres in Nigeria.

The President/ CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) ; Prof. Abidemi Omonisi accompanied by the Chairperson, NCS Lagos State Chapter; Princess Tinu Lawal paid a Familiarization Visit to the Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The President was received by the CEO of Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital; Dr. Modupe Elebute-Odunsi.

The President and Chairperson NCS Lagos State toured the facility and interacted with the staff and patients.

The President commended the CEO of Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre for setting up a state- of -art Comprehensive Healthcare facility, and for contribution in reversing medical oncology tourism .

The CEO responded by thanking the NCS President for the long awaited visit, and commended his leadership style.

Dr. Modupe Elebute-Odunsi urged the President, to advocate for the inclusion of Private Oncology Centres in the NCAP program and NCHF.

The President responded that Private Oncology Centres in Nigeria who are members of NCS are all doing excellently well in contributing, in providing high quality Oncology health care in Nigeria. He mentioned that, there was a time in Nigeria, when patients can only access radiotherapy services at the Private Oncology Centres.

The NCS President promised, to engage the appropriate agencies of the Government on her request but in addition, he further mentioned that , as part of his vision during his NCS Presidency, he will be pushing for the establishment of Cancer Bank by the Federal Government.

The Cancer Bank will provide loans for Private Oncology Centres with zero interest rate and very favourable conditions . He mentioned that, the Cancer Bank will serve as a source of funds for the expansion of facilities and upgrade their services by the Private Oncology Centres.

The Founder / CEO of Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital expressed her huge appreciation for the visit and looking forward to meaningful collaborations between Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital and the Nigerian Cancer Society.

Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital is an active member of NCS Lagos State Chapter.

The visit was marked by presentation of gifts and a group photograph.

The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society Visits Lakeshore Cancer Centre Victoria Island, Lagos: Called for the Establishment of Cancer Bank by the Federal Government.

The President/ CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) ; Prof. Abidemi Omonisi accompanied by the Chairperson, NCS Lagos State Chapter; Princess Tinu Lawal paid a Familiarization Visit to Lakeshore Cancer Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The President was received by the Medical Director of Lakeshore Cancer Center ; Dr. Oge Ilegbune.

The President and Chairperson NCS Lagos State toured the facility, and interacted with the staff and students from Babcock University ilisha-Remo, Ogun State on clinical rotations at Lakeshore.

The President commended the Founder/ CEO of Lakeshore Cancer Center for setting up the foremost operational facility in Nigeria solely dedicated to cancer prevention and treatment. He commended the expansion of Lakeshore Cancer Centre from Victoria Island to other sites in Nigeria. The NCS President commended the Management of the Center for contributing to training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and contribution in reversing medical oncology tourism.

The Medical Director of Lakeshore Cancer Centre responded by thanking the NCS President for this visit, and commended his various positive initiatives in moving NCS forward.

Dr. Oge Ilegbune informed the NCS President the ongoing plan of Lakeshore Cancer Center to complete her permanent centre, to accommodate all services but will need the support of NCS in whatever way in getting the dream actualized.

The President acknowledged the various contributions of Lakeshore in the Cancer Space in Nigeria.

The NCS President mentioned that, all the Private Oncology Centres are doing well but could have done more , if they have received financial support or tax holidays or tax reduction or reduction in import duties on medical equipment etc. The NCS Presidency emphasizes the need for the establishment of Cancer Bank by the Federal Government.

The Cancer Bank will provide loans for Private Oncology Centres with zero interest rate and very favourable conditions . He mentioned that, the Cancer Bank will serve as a source of funds for the expansion of facilities and upgrade their services by the Private Oncology Centres.

Dr. Oge Ilegbune thanked the NCS President for these brilliant recommendations and wished him all the very best. She also thanked the President for sending the Chairperson of NCS Lagos ; Prince Tinu Lawal for him at their last fundraising dinner and golf competition.

Lakeshore Cancer Center is is an active member of NCS Lagos State Chapter.

The President and Chairperson of NCS Lagos State signed on the board to register the visit.

The visit was also marked by presentation of gifts and a group photograph.

Together we will surely make cancer a history in Nigeria and beyond.
