*RESOLUTIONS OF THE NIGERIAN CANCER SOCIETY (NCS) AGM 2025*- *PART* *1*

The following resolutions were made at the recently concluded 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) held in Abuja:

1. *The* *Full* *Decentralization* *of* *NCS* *Operations* .

The AGM approved the full decentralization of both the NCS administrative and financial structures, to empower the State and International Branches.

*2.The* *AGM* *rectified* *the* *List* *of* *all* *Recommended* *Chairmen* *for* *the* *State* *and* *International* *Branches* .

The AGM thanked all the Chairmen for accepting, to serve NCS and indeed humanity.
The previously existing Executive Committees in a few States that served with the last Administration were dissolved at the last AGM. The Chairmen of these Branches are directed, to handover all properties and accounts, of the NCS to the newly rectified Chairmen.

*3.Full Constitution* *of State and* *International* *Executive* *Committees of Branches* .

The AGM directed the newly rectified Chairmen of all the State and International Chapters , to constitute their full Executive Council in conjunction with the NCS Elders in their respective States and International Branches.
The required positions to be filled :
• Vice- Chairperson
• Secretary
• Treasury PRO NCCS State Coordinator YOCAC State Coordinator.
Kindly note that,the AGM directed that the NCCS Coordinator must be a Cancer Survivor.
The YOCAC Coordinator must be a Youth as defined by the African Youth Charter of 2006.
NCCS: Nigerian Coalition for Cancer Survivors ( NCCS), an Arm of NCS.
YOCAC: Youth Coalition Against Cancer (YOCAC), an Arm of NCS.

All State and International Chapters must Submit the full list of their Executive Councils, to the NCS National Secretariat on or before Friday,28th of November, 2025.

*4.Membership* *Enlistment* *and* *all* *Affiliations,now* *to* *be* *done* *at* *with the State* *and* *International* *Branches* .

The AGM directed that all Membership Enlistment and Affiliations both individual and corporate members henceforth, are to be coordinated at the State and International Branches levels. The State and International Branches will report to the NCS National Secretariat as appropriate in this regard.
Furtherfore, the AGM directed the NCS National Secretariat to re- categorize the previously existing NCS membership list on State and International Branches basis. This new format should be shared with all the State and International Branches.
The AGM mandated all individual and corporate members are to directly react with State and International Branches leadership on operational matters to properly streamline coordination of our affairs.
*5.State* *and* *International* *Branches* *Bank* *Accounts* .

The AGM approved the creation of official bank accounts for all State and International Branches. This will be coordinated centrally by the National Treasurer and the Secretary-General.
The Chairmen and Treasurers of all the State and International Branches will be the signatories to their local accounts.

An Expanded NEC meeting will be conveyed next week, to explain other details.

OPPAN Pays Courtesy Visit to the President

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OPPAN) paid a courtesy visit to the President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), Prof. Abidemi Omonisi, at the NCS National Secretariat in Abuja.

The visit formed part of OPPAN’s strategic engagement with key stakeholders in the cancer control space. The Association sought collaboration with the Nigerian Cancer Society in recognition of its pivotal role as the coordinating body for cancer advocacy, policy engagement, and multidisciplinary collaboration across Nigeria.

In her opening remarks, Pharm. (Mrs.) Ijeoma Okwesilieze, National Chairman of OPPAN, expressed appreciation to the NCS leadership for its visionary drive and inclusive approach in uniting professionals and organizations in the fight against cancer. She emphasized that OPPAN is eager to partner with NCS in the areas of cancer awareness, research, training, and policy development — with a focus on ensuring the safe and effective use of anticancer medicines and improving patient outcomes.

She further highlighted the vital role of oncology pharmacists in the continuum of cancer care — from drug preparation and counseling to treatment monitoring and survivorship support — noting that collaboration with NCS would enhance multidisciplinary efficiency in cancer management nationwide. She also officially informed
the NCS President of the forthcoming 1st OPPAN national summit scheduled for July 2026.

Responding, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi, President/CEO of NCS, warmly welcomed the OPPAN delegation and commended the association’s dedication to advancing oncology pharmacy practice. He assured the team of NCS’s readiness to collaborate with OPPAN in professional development, advocacy, and evidence-based cancer control programs that will improve access to quality care. The NCS President mentioned that, members of OPPAN are well represented at all levels of governance in NCS including as Chairs and Secretaries of State Chapters, Committees , National Cancer Intervention Fund ( NCIF) etc. The President also stated that,NCS is for all professional associations interested in combating cancer in Nigeria,and encouraged members of OPPAN to be part of all activities and contribute meaningful to the growth of NCS. The NCS President also commended OPPAN for conceiving the first OPPAN Summit and assured the delegation the full support of NCS.

Prof. Omonisi further stated that he looks forward to receiving the OPPAN leadership and members at the 2025 National Oncology Symposium and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigerian Cancer Society, scheduled to hold from 28th to 30th October 2025, noting that their participation will further strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration in the country’s cancer control efforts.
Several areas of interest were also discussed.

The OPPAN delegation included Pharm. Paul C. Ijomah (National Publicity Secretary), Pharm. Abdulrahman Muhammed (National Assistant Secretary), Pharm. Bakori, Pharm. Abass, Pharm. (Mrs.) Prisca Egwu, and Pharm. (Mrs.) Hassana.

Also present at the meeting were National Officers of the Nigerian Cancer Society, who joined the President in receiving the OPPAN NEC. They expressed delight over the visit and reaffirmed NCS’s commitment to partnerships that advance cancer control and patient-centered care across the country.

The meeting concluded with both organizations reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration for cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship through a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach.

The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society Leads a Courtesy Visit to the First Lady of Imo State and Chairperson of FLAC.

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), Prof. Abidemi Omonisi, led a delegation of the Society on a courtesy visit to the First Lady of Imo State , Her Excellency, Chief Barr. (Dr.) Chioma Uzodimma, at the Imo State Government Lodge, Abuja.

Her Excellency, who also serves as the Chairperson of the First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), Secretary of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) — a national platform championed by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator (Mrs.) Oluremi Tinubu — and Founder of the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative, warmly received the NCS delegation.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Nigerian Cancer Society to strengthen collaboration with the office of the First Lady of Imo State and her affiliated initiatives, with a focus on cancer prevention, early detection, patient support, and advocacy.

In his remarks, Prof. Omonisi commended Her Excellency, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, for her outstanding contributions to the fight against cancer, both in Imo State and across Nigeria. He particularly appreciated the collective efforts of the First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC) under her leadership for their tireless advocacy, nationwide awareness campaigns, and compassionate support for cancer patients and survivors.

He noted that the FLAC network has become a powerful voice in advancing cancer control, mobilizing communities, influencing public policy, and championing equitable access to care. Prof. Omonisi assured Her Excellency that the Nigerian Cancer Society remains committed to working with FLAC, the Renewed Hope Initiative, and the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative to expand access to cancer education, screening, and treatment services across the country.

In her response, Her Excellency, Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma, expressed deep appreciation for the visit and commended the Nigerian Cancer Society for its consistent leadership and coordination of cancer control efforts nationwide. She reaffirmed her passion and commitment to women’s health and empowerment, emphasizing that through her GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative, she will continue to promote awareness, provide screening opportunities, and support women battling cancer. The President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society also informed Her Excellency that, NCS is now in every state in Nigeria including FCT and some countries outside Nigeria. He pleaded with Her Excellency, to assist in facilitating an excellent collaboration between the First Ladies and the NCS State Chapter in their respective States.

She further reiterated that FLAC remains dedicated to complementing national and sub-national efforts in reducing the cancer burden, adding that strong collaboration between Federal and State governments and NCS is essential to achieving lasting impact.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to establish a strategic partnership framework between the Nigerian Cancer Society, the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative, FLAC, and the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at enhancing cancer awareness, promoting early detection, and improving patient outcomes across Nigeria.

*Re* : *Resignation* *of* *NCS* *Administrative* *Officer* - *Mr* . *Matthew* *Ogonnaya* *Chukwuma*

On behalf of the President of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Professor Abidemi Omonisi, I hereby announce the resignation of Mr. Matthew, the NCS admin officer with effect from 31st August 2025.

During his tenure with NCS, Mr. Matthew showed extraordinary enthusiasm and commitment in his role as the admin officer. His hard work and contributions have positively impacted on the various aspects of our work and the NCS secretariat will greatly miss his valuable support.
We wish him a cheerful farewell on his resignation. As we all move forward, we are actively working on identifying a suitable replacement for Mr. Matthew’s position to ensure a smooth transition, in the interim, the NCS Program Officer, Eunice Ali (mobile and whatsapp number +2348185532565) could be contacted.

All of us at the NCS secretariat would like to take this opportunity, to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Matthew for his hard work and dedication during his time with us.

Inauguration of the NCS Southern Africa International Chapter

Kindly be informed that the President/CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS); Prof. Abidemi Omonisi will be inaugurating the NCS Southern Africa International Chapter as below 👇
Date: Friday,15th August,2025 ( today)
Venue: Protea Hotel Marriott Wanderers, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Time: 11.00am local time in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Good will Message will be delivered by the Special Adviser ( Technical) to the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, FMoH; Dr. Kehinde Ololade.

The NCS Southern Africa International Chapter will be covering all countries in Southern Africa including South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia , Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi , Angola and Mozambique.

This NCS International Chapter will be led by Dr. Emmanuel Nweke. The President/ CEO of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Prof. Abidemi Omonisi will also decorate Dr. Emmanuel Nweke as a NCS Ambassador during the event.

Some members of NCS NEC including the Immediate Past NCS President, Dr. Adamu Alhassan Umar and Asst. Secretary -General , Dr. Tessy Ahmadu and other members of NCS will be part of this historic event.

The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has formally Inaugurated the following strategic arms of the Society:


1. NCS National Cancer Intervention Fund (NCS- NCIF)
2. NCCS Advisory Board
3. NCS International Chapters

This historic event was Chaired by the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Razaq in his capacity as a NCS Ambassador.

The very colourful ceremony took place at the Conference Hall of the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja.

The NCS-NCIF Governing Council is led by a global Financial Expert and Public Health Consultant, Dr. Gafar Alawode.

The NCCS Advisory Board is led by Her Excellency, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.

The Ceremony attracted Cancer Survivors, government officials, members of the organizer private sector, representative of the Nigerian Governor Forum, members of NCS , media and the host of others.

The DG NICRAT was ably represented by the Director of Clinical Services, NICRAT, Prof. Musa Ali- Gombe .

This inauguration marks a transformative step in the evolution of the Nigerian Cancer Society, and reinforces its unwavering commitment to the fight against cancer—locally and globally.

The NCS NEC thanked the the Hon. Minister for State for Health and Social Welfare, government officials, stakeholders, partners, civil society groups, medical professionals, cancer survivors, and the general public that join us for this milestone event. Together, we will transform the future of cancer control in Nigeria.


*NB: The NCS BOTs inauguration has been postponed by NEC to a later date that will be communicated to the cancer stakeholders* .

Let us stand together in strengthening national and global cancer control efforts.
Together, we can change the future of cancer care in Nigeria.
