Yesterday was a memorable day for us, as our boss, the CEO of Bayelsa Specialist Hospital launched her book; BEYOND THE WHITE COAT.

This is not just a book, but a wake up call for health practitioners. And to kickstart this movement, was a conversation on 'The Business Side of Medicine'.
The panelists did justice to the topic.

Celebrate our boss with us for this great feat.
And, do well to grab a copy of the book.

You can send us a DM here to send you the link for purchase or call this number to place your order 0903 774 2139.

PS: Special shout out to all the BSHites who showed up! And to those who were working to keep our patients safe and well while the event was ongoing, you rock!

Good Morning!
After a long week, Thursday can feel a bit tiring and boring, but at the same time, Thursday can bring some peace and freshness to our minds as the week is over.
On our last post we promised to share with you reasons why people self medicate, but before we do that, today is INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE, and we would like to throw a little light about drug abuse.
Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medicine.
Drug addiction can start with experimental use of a recreational drug in social situations, and, for some people, the drug use becomes more frequent.
The risk of addiction and how fast you become addicted varies by drug. Some drugs, such as opioid painkillers, have a higher risk and cause addiction more quickly than others. As time passes, you may need larger doses of the drug to get high. Soon you may need the drug just to feel good.
If your drug use is out of control or causing problems, get help. The sooner you seek help, the greater your chances for a long-term recovery. Talk with your health care provider or see a mental health provider, such as a doctor who specializes in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry, or a licensed alcohol and drug counselor.
Make an appointment to see a provider if:
• You can't stop using a drug
• You continue using the drug despite the harm it causes
• Your drug use has led to unsafe behavior, such as sharing needles or unprotected s*x
• You think you may be having withdrawal symptoms after stopping drug use

Having known this, always ensure to take your medications based on doctor's prescription and abstain from self medication.

On this beautiful Tuesday morning, remember that your actions can brighten the ordinary days of the year for others.
Wishing you a Tuesday morning filled with the courage to face challenges and the strength to overcome them.
On our previous post we spoke about what self medication is and we promised to share the dangers of self medication on our next post.
Here are some dangers of self medications;
1. Adverse reactions
Over-the-counter medications can interact with prescription drugs causing adverse reactions. Certain medications can also cause allergic reactions or have adverse side effects that can be severe. As such, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any medication, especially if you are taking other prescription drugs.
2. Dependency
Certain medications can be habit-forming, leading to dependency and addiction. This can have significant consequences including physical and mental health problems, as well as difficulties in personal and professional relationships.
3. Overdose
Taking too much of a medication can lead to a life-threatening overdose. This can happen unintentionally, as many over-the-counter medications have similar active ingredients that can build up in your system and cause toxicity.
4. A delay in receiving proper medical care
Delaying medical treatment can result in more severe health problems and, in some cases, death. Seeking medical attention early on can help prevent these negative outcomes.
These are just some dangers of self medication, on our next post we will talk about why people engage in self medication?

Good afternoon Everyone!

We wish you a very happy Friday. We hope this end of the week gives you warmth and comfort.

Do you know how comforting it is to know that you are strong and healthy? So far we have talked about 7 tips to lower blood pressure, and today we will talk about the last 3 tips to lower blood pressure.

The last 3 tips we will share with you today are:

Get Good Sleep Often:
Research shows that getting seven to eight hours of sleep each night can reduce your risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.
Are you finding it difficult to get better sleep? Then feel free to try this tips for a better sleep.
• Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on days you don't work.
• Create a relaxing bedtime routine by avoiding screens, caffeine, and heavy meals before bed.
• Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet to make it easier to fall and stay asleep
• Get regular exercise and manage stress to improve your sleep.

Take Your Medications as Prescribed:
If your healthcare provider has prescribed blood pressure medication, taking it as prescribed is important for keeping blood pressure under control. Skipping doses or stopping the medication without your healthcare provider’s advice can cause blood pressure to rise
Some foods, drinks, and supplements can also interfere with how your medicine works, so ask your healthcare provider if there are any things you should avoid. Let them know if you have side effects or trouble remembering your doses, too, so they can help.

Work With Your Healthcare Provider:
Along with your healthcare provider, you play a key role in managing your blood pressure. You can work together to create a self-management plan, track your blood pressure at home, and follow up on appointments.
Your healthcare provider can also adjust your medications, offer lifestyle coaching, and provide support to overcome barriers like medication costs or side effects. It's important to trust your healthcare provider as a teammate in managing your health and blood pressure.

We believe this tips will help you lower the risk of Blood pressure.

Hello beautiful people!

Wednesday is an important day of the week because how you spend your midweek can often tell you what kind of a weekend you will have.

Half the week is over, you are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. And you’re never too late to live a healthy lifestyle by first checking your Blood pressure.

Yesterday we highlighted 3 tips to lower our Blood Pressure, today we shall continue by sharing other tips to help us lower our Blood Pressure.

• Drink Less Caffeine
Caffeine from coffee or any other drink may increase blood pressure in people who already have high blood pressure and increase the risk of heart disease.
If you're a daily caffeine drinker, think about cutting back. You can reduce how many times you drink caffeine each day, which isn't associated with the same risk.

• Quit Smoking
Smoking raises blood pressure and increases the risk of heart disease. The chemicals in to***co smoke make your blood vessels stiff and narrow, forcing your heart to work harder. Quitting smoking can help lower your blood pressure and risk of heart disease.

• Limit Your Alcohol Use
To lower blood pressure, try limiting alcohol by:
• Setting drink limit
• Choosing nonalcoholic options
• Drinking water between alcoholic drinks

• Manage Your Stress
Stress can lead to unhealthy habits like smoking, over eating, and skipping exercise. When you're stressed, your body also releases the hormone adrenaline, which temporarily increases blood pressure. Chronic (long-lasting) stress keeps your body in high alert for long periods, which may also contribute to high blood pressure and heart problems.
Prioritizing stress management can help protect your heart and improve your overall well-being.

We believe this tips can guide us through managing our way of living healthy.

Happy Tuesday!
On this Tuesday evening, get yourself a strong motive that can uplift your spirit all day long.
Tuesday is a day full of works, yet equally fun! Do not miss out on the actual excitement of it. Whilst we are getting excited about the day’s activities, we should also be cautious “High Blood Pressure”.
High blood pressure occurs when the force of blood against the blood vessel walls is too strong.1 High blood pressure can increase your risk of heart disease.
We will be sharing with you 10 simple tips to lower your blood pressure this week.
Meanwhile let’s talk about 3 simple tips to lower Blood pressure. Following these tips can help protect you from blood pressure and keep you healthy.
1. MANAGE YOUR WEIGHT
Maintaining a weight that's healthy for you may help lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart, as excess weight can make the heart work harder to pump blood. As part of your weight management strategy, be sure to eat balanced meals with fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins and get regular physical activity. Even a small amount of weight loss through these approaches can help improve blood pressure if you have excess weight.
2. EXERCISE REGUARLY
Exercising regularly can help lower high blood pressure. Some people lowered their blood pressure significantly just by moving more throughout the day.
3. EAT LESS SALT
Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. Check your nutrition labels, choose fresh foods, rinse canned foods, and season meals with herbs instead of salt to cut back. Cooking at home more often is also a simple way to control how much salt you eat.

A wonderful Thursday to you all!

Thursday gives you energy and hopes as the weekend approaches, Spread kindness today and make someone smile; it could change their life in ways you can't imagine.

Talking about “SPREADING” there’s a particular disease that’s spreads so quickly irrespective of who or what you think you are, this disease is known as Malaria.

According to WHO Malaria is one of the biggest global health threats, with an estimated 247 million malaria cases and 619,000 malaria deaths globally in 2021, Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite. The parasite is spread to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes.

The early symptoms of malaria – headache, fever and chills – may be mild or confused with other illnesses, and so people often aren't diagnosed with malaria until it is too late.

Malaria vaccine, also known as Mosquirix, is designed to target the Plasmodium falciparum parasite that causes malaria, which is spread by anopheles mosquitoes.

The vaccine targets the sporozoite, which is the infectious stage of the parasite. When a child is vaccinated, the immune system is stimulated to produce antibodies against the circumsporozoite protein, which is found on the surface of the sporozoites. If a vaccinated child is later bitten by a malaria-infected mosquito, the antibodies can neutralize the sporozoites in the bloodstream, preventing the parasite from establishing an infection on the child.
Malaria vaccine has been tested in rigorous clinical trials and shown to be safe and effective in children, including those with HIV and malnutrition.

Malaria vaccine implementation has resulted in a substantial fall in severe malaria hospitalizations and a significant drop in child deaths.

It is advised by parents and guidance to vaccinate their children in hospitals or any medical center around the to prevent mortality rate in children due to malaria disease.

For more information about malaria vaccination please visit the Bayelsa Specialist Hospital or send us a DM on Facebook Specialist Hospital or call 09017761800.

• Support efforts to expand adoption of evidence-based clinical best practices in maternal health and obstetrics
• Improve access to high-quality prenatal care and delivery services for at-risk populations
Healthy Futures

Good morning all!

Look who just woke up! Rise and shine, sleepyhead. You’re about to have an amazing day, wake up energized, have a good meal and achieve all that you want today as we talk about who a pediatrician is.
A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the health and well-being of children, from infancy through adolescence.
Some of the roles of the pediatricians are
• Routine Pediatric Care: Pediatricians provide comprehensive primary care to children, including regular check-ups, well-child visits, and vaccinations.
• Diagnosis and Treatment: Pediatricians diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic illnesses and conditions in children.
• Management of Chronic Conditions: Pediatricians manage chronic conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and developmental disorders.
There are also various types of pediatricians such as:
• General Pediatrician
• Pediatric Cardiologist
• Pediatric Endocrinologist
• Pediatric Gastroenterologist
• Pediatric Pulmonologist
• Pediatric Neurologist
Pediatricians work closely with parents and caregivers to provide care that is tailored to each child's unique needs. They may perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications or other treatments as needed.
Having known about who a pediatrician is and the role they play, we believe your child’s health will be taken seriously and also ensure to visit pediatrician whenever.

Hello beautiful people!

Welcome to the first working day of June, 2025.
It’s so amazing to see all of us thrive through this year to the 6th month of the year.
Let your enthusiasm be contagious on this first day of work, as it sets the stage for a vibrant work environment.

Well, this week we are going to concentrate more on pediatric and maternity health. Of course children are so adorable and we all hope for the best for them as they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Talking about children, last week the 27th May, 2025 (CHILDRENS DAY). The Bayelsa Specialist Hospital hosted some children from the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) Akaba branch, Bayelsa State. And it was a fun filled and career building section for the children, they had health talk, a tour around the Hospital, demonstration on how some medical apparatus are being used, guess the best of all! All the children were taken to the Dental clinic for a special Scaling and Polishing section, where they were being taught about Oral Health as it is essential for children to take care of their Oral wellbeing.

Having heard all of this, we believe you will stay glued to our Hospital page as we will fill you with lots of information about Pediatric, mother and baby healthcare and maternal healthcare services.
