WORLD DIABETES DAY

Today, PSAL commemorates the world diabetes day (WDD).

It is marked every year, on the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922.

Diabetes (A.K.A. High Blood Glucose) is a metabolic disease that results in too much sugar in the blood..

This year themed; Access to Diabetes Care.

To every healthcare providers, together we can scale up access to diabetes care to our patients.

THE SIX HONEST SERVING MEN OF PSAL PAD A GIRL OUTREACH.

WHAT?
_An outreach to distribute sanitary pads and quality information on reproductive and menstrual hygiene._

WHY?
_For most poor and vulnerable girls in Nigeria, as signs of menstruation get close, it serves as a constant reminder of the oncoming abuse and stigmatisation they are about to face. What should be a proud period in their lives, turns out to be their most dreadful period. For most of these girls, menstruation is a dream-killer because they never get to attend school during menstruation. While others who cannot afford a good menstrual pad, rely on old rags and leaves as alternatives. There is no gainsaying the detrimental health challenges faced by these poor girls and women as a result of these unhygienic practices. Some are sexually abused in their quest to look for money to buy menstrual pads._

WHO?
_500 underprivileged girls in secondary schools in our community, Amassoma._

HOW?
_By raising funds, organizing a sensitization program for participants, and finally launching out to provide girls with information about reproductive health and sanitary pads._

WHEN?
_25th October, 2023._

_In secondary schools in Amasomma, Bayelsa State, Nigeria._
