We were honored to be part of the World AIDS Day Commemoration organized by the Adamawa State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS.
44 million lives lost — and HIV is still not over. HIV remains one of the world's biggest health challenges.
Here's what you should know:
- HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system and is spread from body fluids of an infected person.
- Symptoms of HIV vary, some may have flu-like illness including fever, headache, rash and sore throat.
- AIDS occurs at the most advanced stage of HIV infection.
- About 40.8 million people worldwide are living with HIV
- While there's no cure, HIV can be prevented and treated.
Reduce the risk of HIV by:
- Using condoms
- Testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections
- Choosing medical male circumcision
- Getting safe help if you inject and use drugs
- Taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medicine as an additional prevention option
This World AIDS Day, let's raise awareness of HIV and support access to prevention, treatment, and care for all.
