Diagnosis on Lassa fever*

The symptoms not Lassa fever vary widely and diagnosis can be difficult .

Clinically the disease can resemble other viral hemorrhagic fever like👇👇

📛 ebola virus
📛Malaria and
📛 typhoid

Hmm the only definitive tests for Lassa fever are laboratory based and the handling of specimen can be hazardous. Only specialized institutions can conduct these test

Lassa fever is generally diagnosed by using enzyme linked immunosorbent serologic assay
Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction can also be used in early stages of the disease
Treatment of Lassa Fever*

🔷Rehydration and treatment of symptoms can improve the chances of survival if there is an early diagnosis

🔷 To prescribe early the antiviral drug ribavirin .... this has proven useful in fighting Lassa virus

*The world at large is still trying to get vaccine to totally treat and prevent this virus*

*Note this;*

*Lassa fever is transmitted to humans from contact of food or House hold items contaminated with rodent excreta*

*Prevention is better than treatment....let's try to prevent it by all means*

It's a hemorrhagic virus which means it can cause bleeding although 8 out 10 every people with the virus have no symptoms ...

🔵or Spleen

It can be fatal
*Facts about Lassa fever*

🟡 It causes around 5000 death per year

🟡 It is spread through the f***s and urine or the multimamate rat (Mastomys natalensis)

🟡it is common in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria

🟡Lassa fever is carried by the multimamate rat Mastomys (m. Natalensis ) this is one the most common rodents in equatorial Africa found across much 9d sub Sahara Africa
