Escuelita Zantli is a play and nature-based kindergarten hidden amongst the hills of Popoyo We feel that right relationship is the key to a brighter future.

Nuestros Circulos Infantiles y Kinder de Escuelita Zantli celébran, protegen y desarollan la etapa tan cortita e especial de la vida en cual esta permitido ser un niño. La misión de Zantli es crear un entorno magico y calido, llena de arte, musica e experiencias directas de la vida y la naturaleza. A su vez ofrecemos a los padres una oportunidad para experimentar los principios de la educacion Waldorf y discutir todo lo relacionado con la crianza holística de niños. "La escuela es un lugar de encuentro entre dos generaciones, que se enseñan mutuamente ... un espacio de reflexión donde el orden establecido, más que perpetuarse, puede renovarse, acogiendo a los nuevos impulsos evolutivos de cada nueva generación." We are a group of young mothers from different parts of the world living on the pacific coast of Nicaragua. Our shared interest in an alternative approach to education united and inspired us to create Escuelita Zantli, an early childhood education initiative and kindergarten for our own children and those of the local community. We dreamed of creating a nurturing safe haven where children could learn through play and contact with nature. We saw a rich opportunity to foster respect and appreciation for diversity by letting these children learn together and from each other. We also wanted to help other parents with the challenges of child rearing and create a strong community around our shared values of sustainability, creativity and a holistic and respectful approach to education and care giving. We have come together to protect, nurture and celebrate the magic of childhood. We feel it is the birth right of all children to have access to learning experiences that build connections, allow for exploration and inspire joy and wonder. We as parents and therefore early childhood educators have a unique opportunity to provide the foundations for the development of self confidence, self motivation and resilience. This is why we are passionate about sharing knowledge and practices based on the science of attachment and inspired by the principles of Waldorf education. By using a more child-centric and holistic approach to education we want to instill a lifelong love of learning and nurture the creativity that prepares learners for an ever changing world. We also want to change how the environment is viewed and treated in Nicaragua, by placing connection to nature at the center of our curriculum. Developing a compassionate connection to self, other and the environment is the foundation of our programs and mission and is what we strive to model for the next generation.

Our new kindergarten home came with a gorgeous tropical plant nursery of which we are so excited to be the new stewards.

These gardens and plants will be lovingly tended to by our young learners. Gardening, nature walks and plant studies will all be part of our curriculum.
We are beyond grateful for this incredible set up and devoted to taking our motto to a whole new level.

As we transition our focus and home to a new location we want to take a moment to honor what has been.

💐

What a ride full of learning for all involved, building the foundation of this passion project from the ground up! Zantli has been serving families for 4 years on this precious hilltop over looking the Pacific Ocean.

This transition is important in that it marks an end of this first phase and the beginning of a new one: Zantli on its own stunning land with a building designed for the children.

Deep gratitude for all the teachers, assistants, surf guide papas, for the growing community of parents and for the Lopez family for sharing their special home with us all these years, what a gift!

Deep gratitude also for the support from afar, all those that follow us and have come out in support of our fundraising efforts in NY and online. Your encouragement and belief in our mission is so appreciated. 🙏

Zantli is the shared dream grown from the hearts and vision of mothers. It is still materializing and organically (slowly) growing. We are immensely grateful for this opportunity to provide heart centered and creative education for our children and families of our community and beyond excited about what phase 2 will bring.

Another inquiry alive in our hearts today, as the co-creators of these constantly evolving learning spaces is:

How do we support each individual child to become an integral member of the greater Earth community?

In the current gloomy global environment it feels extremely urgent to examine and renew our educational and parenting agendas as a way to create significant change.

It feels like a time to get really clear on our values.

What are we striving for?

What is even worth our effort and attention?

What kind of world will you leave behind for your children?

Are you willing to make the necessary sacrifices to actually live in alignment with you values?

We have been pretty quiet on here lately, working hard behind the scenes making magic happen for Zantli’s future.

Zantli now has it’s own BEAUTIFUL LAND with a plant nursery.

Growing in Connection now has a whole new layer of meaning.

Really feeling the buzzing hum of new life and the potential that surrounds seedlings, beginning of rainy season and the explosion of green it brings, early childhood and the dreams of whats to come. Tender beginnings…

We have been planting trees, measuring land and envisioning where the new Kindergarten will go, its shape and use, how we’d like it to feel. We both love the creative challenge of space design and are super excited to be at this stage once again, but this time on Zantli’s own land.

In many ways this is a restart, a new loop around the spiral, but with a couples years of experience informing the recreation.

We look forward to sharing the journey with you all here.

We hope to be ready to open doors in the new space by early 2026.

Very excited for new beginnings.

Wishing everyone a happy Easter.

Even here in Nicaragua, in the intense heat of Semana Santa the promise of new life is starting to become apparent in the form of tiny buds on the trees. How does this happen BEFORE the rains come?

Semana Santa is a big deal here in Nicaragua. Not only is it the longest national holiday, its the hottest time of year so EVERYONE gets out of the cities and flocks to the beach. For some it’s a mega party for others its very religious.

Being such an international community its always interesting to see how different families celebrate holidays.

We find it so important to ask ourselves as parents and educators which stories are we are choosing to tell our children, what they represent, how they contribute to the formation of an integrated and grounded cosmovision.

This year the children needle felted colorful woolen Easter eggs and baby chicks. 🐥🐣 🥚

As we transition away from surf for a while I want to shout out to our amazing crew of papa surf guides that have made these Zantli Surf fridays possible for the pst 4 years !!

Volunteering their time with so much heart and passion, teaching our children how to fully appreciate, respect and know for this amazing body of water that is our home here in South Pacific Nicaragua.

Every year in preparation for the Solstice Spiral Celebration the kids enjoy dipping their own beeswax candles.

✨🌟🕯️🌟✨

This is a true feat in patience, coordination and being gentle!

3 year olds and hot wax is a tricky combination, but with story, repetition and hand crafting real magic unfolds.

So rewarding to see the wonder and pride on their faces as they see the candles grow with every dip.

What a beautiful experience to sit in circle with these Nicaraguan mamas and babies!

After years of dreaming of and building up to this, I wasn’t sure what to expect….

What a heart warming experience to find a room full of engaged, smiling, excited mamas sharing their gratitude and readiness for this opportunity to learn and be together.

A torrential rainstorm pounded on the roof, power went out and we huddled closer together to be able to hear each woman’s voice.

I am so touched by the open heartedness of these women. This, is in essence, is a cultural exchange, a space co-created together by mothers for mothers. We may come from different backgrounds and hold different beliefs and customs but we are all mothers wanting to give our children the best we can.

May the magic unfold…. 🪷
