When you have 444 grams of leftover roasted pumpkin 🎃 chuck in the kitchen machine with some chocolate, spices & vanilla. Add some eggs, sugar and melted butter, yoghurt and milk, baking soda and flour and bake for a while.
Cake without a recipe... I learnt that from my mum! ❤️

The garlic is in!!
A lot later than last year but still before winter solstice and with the waning moon! 🌙
Covered with leafy mulch instead of pea straw this year to hopefully deter the bulb mites (we also gave the cloves a treatment of warm water and baking soda before planting). Watch this space for success rates! 🙌

Another little winter booster... super easy to make... turmeric infused honey 🍯 💛

1/4C quality honey, mānuka or other
1tsp turmeric powder

Optional extras:
2 drops lemon essential oil
Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp grated ginger or ginger powder

Sometimes it takes completely running out of the usual to (re)turn to better habits... lately I 'd gotten into the habit of having sourdough bread for lunch, home baked, yummy, quick and easy. Seemingly easier than foraging greens, cutting up fruit and blending, also more filling. 😋
But I forgot to start the sourdough loaf yesterday, so no bread today... smoothie time instead!
Eating/drinking greens that are this fresh is like pouring liquid sunlight into your cells! 🌞 💚 🍃
Bonus of blending: you can add prickly and stingy things in too!

Nicola Galloway Homegrown Kitchen has great feijoa recipes, but of course, I can never follow a recipe to the letter.
So here's my feijoa tomato kasundi because it wasn't quite enough feijoas.
And the skins on their way to making a delish feijoa fizzy drink. 💚

That sad time of year when the last tomatoes hang on dying plants and fail to ripen... green tomato chutney time.

On a happier note the two tomatoes grafted onto native poroporo are still alive, fingers crossed they might make it through winter.

When a branch from the tall poplar tree comes down in the wind, it comes bearing gifts... poplar buds have incredible health benefits for skin and lungs.
Hot water bathed these babies for 6hrs in macademia oil with calendula petals added. Thickened with bees wax and tallow, made extra potent with essential oils of tea tree, rosemary, lavender and white pine. 💜
