Full circle …

Back in 2017 I was a puppy starting my journey in the fitness industry. I had an office job and did the fitness work on the side. I learned a lot, almost all on the job.

Now, years later I am (finally?) making the transition. Im@going back to where it all started. I’m putting away the laptop and replacing it for the iron. No more splitting my time. It’s time to go all in.

In the Netherlands it is recommended by het Voedingscentrum that we eat at least 250gr of veg daily. Not all of us reach that, mainly because we wait until dinner to eat the veggies. And then 250gr turns out to be quite a lot.
So why don’t you try to be clever about it. Spread the volume over your different meals. For example, if you put some veggies in your breakfast smoothie (bowl), oatmeal or chia pudding bowl, you can then already get a sizeable amount in straight at breakfast. You can vary; spinach, beets, courgettes, carrots..there’s plenty to choose from.
The chia bowl in the picture? It has 40gr of cauliflower.
Nutritious eating really doesn’t have to be that complicated 😉

I’ve been struggling with shoulder issues for a few months now. Even the chest press was giving discomfort in the delts. We lowered the weights, we decreased the range of motion. We stayed with this weight for what feels forever. Now, after months of physical therapy and a lot of patience (not my best trait), I am finally feeling I’m turning a corner. Shoulder presses with dumbbells are feeling safe again, and with my chest press I can finally reach a greater range of motion again.

I’ll still have to be careful but the way up is back on the table again 😊

I’m not very good at following recipes.. I tend to go ahead and just throw some things together. And that’s how I came up with this beauty.
So for those who do like to follow recipes, here’s the deeds:
nl pieces, 40 grams, soaked in hot water for about 10 minutes and then seasoned with spices and roasted in the oven for about 20 mins
Corn, approximately 50 grams
Lima beans, approximately 60 grams, but can be any type of beans you like or have available
Avocado, approximately 30 grams, diced
Spinach, approximately 30 grams
Tomatoes, a handful
sriracha mayo, approximately 10 grams

The pieces from peasmaker bring a whopping amount of protein and they’re very easy to use. Since I discovered them, I use them quite a lot. Also, for those with a soy-allergy: they are soy-free.

Anyway, the rest is simple: mix it all together and dig in.

I took a week of training 😱

Since I started training, I’ve been very dedicated and disciplined. I would basically schedule appointments according my training schedule (and work obvs). Not training was unthinkable.
But the last couple of months I had some issues; my sleep schedule was not good, stress from work.. a few things were starting to impact my joy in training. I got stuck in my head. So I decided to listen to my body- sth I also always mention to my clients- and take a break from training.

I was a bit apprehensive, scared I would get stuck in my head even more but actually, it did me good. I focused on recovery; amping up my sleep, getting back to better food patterns and having fun with friends. Just working and doing whatever I felt like.

Yesterday I returned to the gym, feeling much better. Training felt good, heavy but good. My vision was clear again. And luckily I didn’t have to bring down any of the weights 😉.

Even though you have a goal, it is always important to listen to your body. A weeks rest will not bring you behind, it will just give you the opportunity to work towards your goal with refreshed energy and a fresh mind. Remember; it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

I love me a bowl of protein fluff when the temperature is rising. And this is an amazingly simple recipe to make. You will need a food processor for this.

For the base you need 4(!) ingredients only:
- frozen fruit, 150gr
- protein powder, 1 scoop (30gr)
- xantaangom, approx 1 teaspoon
- milk of choice, 150gr

Blitz the frozen fruit, till it is in a softer consistency. And the protein powder and the xantaangom and mix well. The slowly start adding your milk. Once everything is in, keep mixing for some time, till you get a nice, creamy texture.
Put in a bowl, add your topping of choice and enjoy 😋

When it comes to breakfast I’m quite simple.
Winter? It’s oats without a doubt
Otherwise it’ll be a smoothie bowl type of breakfast 99% of the time.
I will change some ingredients sometimes, depending on my mood, but the base is always water, protein powder and creatine.
This one is full of lush summer fruits and banana. Add some nuts and a sprinkle of cacao nibs and I’m good to go 😋
