About Kormos Practice

I’m Janka Kormos, contemporary dancer/mover, dance-movement therapist, social worker and researcher. I have been supporting people the past 7 years in various settings. I offer person-centered dance therapy sessions for adults, children and young people in Amsterdam. My work is enriched by diverse cultural backgrounds. I have lived, studied and worked in Hungary, Germany, UK, USA and The Netherlands. I’m passionate about sharing an embodied approach to being, growing, learning and healing. I apply strength-based and anti-oppressive practices that enable people to explore, play, question, confront, negotiate, accept, release and reintegrate all different aspects of the self.

I'm committed to working for social justice and creating a society that is sensitive to trauma, stands against all forms of exclusion, provides support and offers opportunities for everyone to live, develop, belong and achieve their goals. Therefore I offer low income sessions for people in need. You can reimburse part of your sessions’ costs from most health insurance companies.

Our bodies are bearers of knowledge of our past, present and hold potentiality of our future. Our movement reflects our connections, our experiences, our preferences and our unique way of being in the world. Expression through body movement is our primary way of connection, exploration, locomotion and communication. Before we learn to speak, we learn to create emotional bonds, self-express and self-regulate through movement.

Dance-Movement therapy is a uniquely accessible and adaptable practice that can be tailored to various needs. It can help to achieve a state of balance in life and your personal goals in self-discovery. It can be used to treat fluctuating moods, sleeping problems, anxiety, burn-out, depression, PTSD, addictive behaviours, eating disorders, mental health issues, learning difficulties, special developmental and cognitive problems, psychosexual issues, neurological disorders, problems arising from social isolation and exclusion or issues with emotional-regulation.
