Dear all,

Our hearts are heavy after the devastating loss São Vicente suffered from Tropical Storm Erin.

For three years, we’ve worked in Cape Verde to strengthen healthcare, training 800+ first responders and providing AEDs.

Now, one urgent need: reopening the Centro de Saúde de Bellavista. This clinic is essential for basic care and to relieve the main hospital, but it remains closed after the storm.

We’ve launched a fundraiser, 100% of donations go directly to the community. Any amount helps.

🖤 Uniting for Health, Empowered by Unity.

excited for all that’s to come, see you soon ❤️

April was special, and we want to thank you for being part of it. With your support, we’ve continued working with the community on the island of Santo Antão.

There are now six automated external defibrillators on the island, an important step in responding to heart emergencies. Next to that, we continued offering free first aid training for local residents.

At Nova Onda, we’re focused on improving healthcare in remote areas, and we’re looking forward to what’s next.

Stay tuned, more exciting things coming soon. Thanks for being with us.

Over the past few days, we've been working hard once again with the community of Santo Antão to provide first aid training. We've now donated 6 AEDs to the island, placing them in Ribeira Grande, Ponta do Sol, Paul, Cruzinha, Porto Novo, and the volunteers at the fire department.

We’re grateful for all the participants taking part in the course, and we remain committed to continuing with the upcoming projects for the Nova Onda Foundation.

Dear guides,

We hope to see you this sunday between 16:15 and 16:30 in front of the hospital in Ribeira Grande for a free First Aid training. From there on we will move to the training location in XôXô by car. This will be a fun and important day, the training will be outside in nature. Could you please confirm if we can count on you?

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there!

With love,
Iris & Sophie

Hey!

We are Iris and Sophie, the founders of the Nova Onda Foundation. For almost two years, we’ve been working together with the people of Santo Antão to improve healthcare on the island by empowering the local community through first aid training. So far, we’ve already trained over 450 people as first aid responders and we’re just getting started!

In a little over two weeks, we’ll be back in Santo Antão to continue our training sessions. On top of that, thanks to the support of Hotel Luz da Lua, kommil Foo, Tienne del Mar, and Walhalla Sea House, we’re bringing three more AEDs to the island! These life-saving devices greatly increase the chances of survival after a cardiac arrest. Earlier, in collaboration with Voja Travel and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam - HvA, we already donated three AEDs and we’re so happy to keep expanding this impact.

By joining our training, you’ll learn how to help someone in an emergency. Want to be part of it? Visit our website: www.novaonda.org or send us an email at info@novaonda.org, we’d love to tell you more!

See you soon?

Sophie & Iris

Counting down the days! See you soon!

Hey Tourguides!

On April 6, we’re offering a free first aid training designed specifically for tour guides! Given our busy schedule, we’ve set aside this day to ensure guides can participate.

During the training, we’ll focus on life-saving CPR, choking emergencies, the use of an AED and unconsciousness. Since this year, we’ve donated five AEDs across the island, making it even more important for as many people as possible to stay sharp in first aid. Being prepared means you can make a real difference in an unexpected medical emergency.

Regular training is key —keeping your skills fresh ensures you won’t forget crucial information. That’s why we encourage you to train annually! At the end of the session, you’ll receive a certificate.

If you’ve trained with us before, we’d love to see you again for this new opportunity!

📅 Date: April 6, 2025
⏰ Time: 16:30 - 18:30
📍 Location: Ribeira Grande Hospital

Want to join? Let us know by leaving a respond under this post and we will get in touch with you.

We hope to see you all there!

With love,
Sophie & Iris
