Orit Zilberman - Chinese Medicine

Orit Zilberman - Chinese Medicine Hi, I'm Orit, providing acupuncture & herbal medicine treatments for women's health in Amsterdam (Netherlands), a member of the Dutch association NVA.

I chose to close this Taiji series with vulvodynia, because every phase of the cycle I described in the previous posts usually directly influences how v***ar pain feels.

The Taiji applies to every women’s health condition, but this is where my focus is.

Vulvodynia affects 1 in 7 women, which means millions of women worldwide are living with it, many without even knowing there is a name for what they feel.

If you start tracking your pain alongside your cycle, you will likely start to see a pattern. When it peaks, when it eases, what you ate, how you moved, how stressed you were.
That pattern is information. And information is where we start.

Lifestyle changes are not always enough, and then a thorough personal intake is what allows me to understand your individual pattern according to Chinese medicine and get the support of acupuncture and herbs to change it. But tracking is something you can begin today.

If you have questions or want to share what you tracked, my DMs are open. 💛

Following on from my post about the Taiji:
Your menstrual cycle is not just about reproduction. Your whole body participates in it, and your whole body is influenced by it.

Even if pregnancy is not your goal, a healthy cycle matters. It affects your energy, your mood, your digestion, your sleep, and how much pain you feel throughout the month.

Both Chinese medicine and Western medicine recognise 4 phases in the cycle. They describe them differently, but they are looking at the same thing.

One important thing to understand first: the phases are connected. What happens in one phase influences the next. This means that changes you make today may only show their effect in the following phase, or even the next cycle. If you have been struggling with PMS, the real work often happens in the phases that come before it.
And as the Taiji shows us, everything is relative - each woman, and each cycle, is different.

In the next 4 posts I will go through each phase, what is happening in your body, and one simple way to support yourself during it.

Lifestyle changes are an important first step, but they are not always enough. For some women, acupuncture and herbal medicine can offer additional support alongside these changes. If you would like to check whether this applies to you, you are welcome to book a free 20 minute intro call - link in bio.💛

This is the last part in my series on supporting vulvodynia.

Hui Yin Ren-1 is one of the most powerful points in Chinese medicine for pelvic and ge***al health. It sits midway between the va**na and the a**s, and one of the most intimate point locations in the body, which is exactly why in 19 years of specialising in vulvodynia and pelvic pain, I have never used it.

Not because it isn’t powerful. Because you don’t need a needle to activate it. And because your body belongs to you.

Institutions including the WHO, NIH and FDA indicate the external ge***als as a forbidden area for acupuncture techniques. I agree, and I go further. For women in general and especially those with v***ar and va**nal pain, needling in this area can cause more harm than good, even when done with the best intentions.

But this post is not about what practitioners should or shouldn’t do.

It is for you.

Know that you can say no to needling this point, and still activate it and get its full benefits, because Hui Yin is something you can explore yourself, gently, at home, and entirely on your own terms. Swipe to learn how. 🌿

The first large scale research study on acupuncture and vulvodynia just came out and the most surprising finding isn’t the one making headlines. I wrote about it on the blog - link in bio.

This is part 4 of 5 in my series on supporting vulvodynia.

The v***ar area is one of the most sensitive tissues in the body — what feels fine elsewhere can cause significant irritation here. This includes products that seem completely natural or harmless.

In this post I share what many women with vulvodynia find helpful for external comfort — and what commonly makes things worse. These are not treatments, and they don’t address the underlying condition. But for day-to-day comfort, small choices can make a real difference.

A note on tea tree oil: it’s widely recommended online for v***ar complaints, but it can be too irritating especially for vulvodynia. It may only be considered if a lab test has confirmed a va**nal infection — and even then, with caution.

As always, observe how your body responds to anything new, and stop immediately if irritation increases.

✨Why don’t we talk about v***ar pain?

Vulvar and va**nal pain can be as intense as a migraine, but most people have never heard someone talk about it.
Many suffer in silence
Shamefully.
Alone.

Why❓
Because the v***a and va**na are still taboo.
Because even some doctors still don’t know what vulvodynia is.
Because pain in this area is too often minimized or misunderstood.

But 1 in 7 women experience it.
You are not alone.
Your pain is real.
And it has solutions 🌺

As a Chinese medicine therapist, I’ve supported many women with v***ar and va**nal complaints, including vulvodynia, vaginitis, and pain during in*******se.

Let’s start talking about it.
Let’s normalize vulvodynia. ✨

❓Censored for saying… v***a❓

I recently tried to post on Google a short message about vulvodynia and va**nal pain. But my post was immediately removed.

🔹Not for being offensive.
🔹Not for spreading misinformation.
🔹But because I used the words v***a and va**na.

Words that describe parts of the body that half the population has.
Words we need to name in order to talk about real, chronic pain.
Words that should never be taboo - especially in healthcare.

And it’s not just Google. On many social media platforms, posts that include female anatomical terms are shown to fewer people.

The algorithms treat women’s health like a violation.
If these terms make a system uncomfortable, that’s exactly why we need to say them louder.

Because the silence around v***ar and va**nal pain is part of what keeps people suffering quietly, often for years.

So here I am, saying it again:
Vulvodynia exists. Vulvar and va**nal pain is real. And it deserves real care.

✨Let’s change that.
✨Let’s name the pain.
✨Let’s talk about vulvodynia — without shame, without censorship.
