On January 17 the South African cellist, pianist and singer the HA!man is coming to the Jungle in Amsterdam for a yoga concert, fusing his music with poetry and yin yoga. Save the date!

A yoga concert is a blend of live music, poetry, and yin yoga. It is a journey, in the words of poet Wendell Berry:

And the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles,
no matter how long,
but only by a spiritual journey,
a journey of one inch,
very arduous and humbling and joyful,
by which we arrive at the ground at our feet,
and learn to be at home.

Thursday 8 pm: yin yoga concert
Friday 7h30 pm: sunset yoga concert in nature
Saturday 5h30 pm: poetry recital at the bar

Eric Baret's modern classic stands tall in the beautiful tradition of Kashmir Shaivism, and is a great inspiration for the yoga concerts. This Saturday morning we will practice some real yoga while sitting still in the hipster postures of yin yoga.

Zaterdag 31 mei: laatste yogaconcert van het seizoen!

De magie komt weer naar de Jungle, want Erik Bosgraaf is te gast, ‘de blokfluitspeler die in barokstijl kan dansen en als een jazzmuzikant kan improviseren’ (de Volkskrant). Hij wordt gezien als een van ’s werelds belangrijkste blokfluitspelers. Een unieke kans dus om zijn spel te horen in de intieme setting van een yogaconcert.

Wat is een yogaconcert?
Niet alleen bezoekers, ook de muzikanten komen tijdens een yogaconcert in een andere concentratie. Door de kalme, meditatieve en tegelijk intense houdingen van yin yoga zakt iedereen dieper in het bewustzijn. Dat opent een creatieve laag: de live geïmproviseerde muziek, de yogahoudingen en mystieke poëzie bundelen samen, werken op elkaar in en versterken elkaar in een nieuwe ervaring.

Sketches of a yoga concert by live painter Tali Farchi, blended with lines of Maya Angelou's poem On the pulse of morning.

The poem guided the yoga concert along with live music of cellist, pianist, and singer François le Roux (aka the HA! Man). The next yoga concert is coming Saturday, March 29, in the Jungle, Amsterdam. Tickets go through Hipsy.

In 2006, I was producer of a performance at the South African Grahamstown festival, which was the start of a long time collaboration between live painter Tali Farchi and cellist, singer, and improvisor the HA!Man. Coming Saturday, they are reunited at my yoga concert. The one performing with his cello, the other one in the audience, painting the musician, yogi's, and, as in the images, painting the music.

The yoga concert of March 22 has a South African flavour with the HA!man, who made our concrete Jungle part of his World tour. The yin yoga will be shaped around poetry of the wonderful Maya Angelou. Tickets through Hipsy!
