The award was presented by the Publisher and Editorial board of the journal, on the final day of Colloids and Materials 2011 conference in Amsterdam.

The 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) proclaimed 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011) to celebrate the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to mankind, under the theme “Chemistry - our life, our future”. The opening ceremonies for the IYC 2011 were held on January 27-28 in Paris at the UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Headquarters.
