D/DOCK is a spatial and conceptual design community that creates honest, beautiful and effective spaces with enduring value that deeply inspire.
D/DOCK is an Amsterdam based concept and design studio specialised in interior design, project management and consultancy. Our main drive is the development and realization of spaces, buildings and concepts offering an added value to its users. This added value can be found in smart business solutions, but can also be focused on health, economy or experience. By thinking not only from a design and conceptual perspective, but also from a project management and consultancy point of view, a design process with maximum control is resulting that accommodates our clients. Together with our international team of interior designers, concept designers, architects, technical draftsmen, graphic designers, food designers and stylists, we share the ambition to combine high-end interior design with innovative concept development. We not only strive to contribute to a better world but also positively influence the performance and success of our clients. Our multidisciplinary working method, combined with a highly controlled design process, are the ingredients for top-notch designs with a high-end finishing. At D/DOCK we like to color outside the lines. This attitude evolved into a constant hunger for new opportunities, working on both domestic and international projects. In reimagining the ground floor of the , we redefined how art and interiors interact to shape thoughtful, resonant design.
As curators, we invited eleven artists — Dutch and international creatives based in the Netherlands — to contribute to a layered narrative that unfolds throughout the hotel’s common areas.
From hand-glazed tiles to sculptural interventions and atmospheric canvases, each work was carefully selected or commissioned to deepen the spatial story, always in dialogue with the city and the architecture, bringing a unique dimension to the guest experience.
The result is a hospitality environment where art becomes part of the spatial language, grounding the hotel’s Brutalist legacy in local warmth, personal memory, and emotional depth.

Last week, our team gathered around the breakfast table with a group of local residents and nine Amsterdam hoteliers, including , ,
, , , .nl, and .
We explored how hotels can develop tailor-made offerings that genuinely resonate with the people who live just around the corner.
Because when hotels open up to their surroundings, something powerful happens: trust grows, local livelihoods are supported, and tourism begins to reflect the true character of the communities it touches. That’s a step towards regenerative tourism, one that also creates value for the neighbourhood.
Some important lessons:
✔️ Hotels are very enthusiastic about opening up their properties to their neighbours.
✔️ Try to use existing community frameworks as much as possible.
✔️Repetition is key to optimise impact.
After summer, we will launch our public campaign to engage a broader audience.
You might have heard that D/DOCK has launched a new initiative: Buurthotel.nl – Where hotels become places for locals to connect.
We’re supported by , , , 33 hotels and counting, and .
On 3 July, we’re hosting a Breakfast Session to brainstorm ideas for “neighbourhood specials” – How can hotels offer spaces and services to locals that are unique and worthwhile?
Interested in joining as a local or as a hotel? See link in bio.
Registration closes on 26 June.
Time & place: 09:30 to 11:00 at DB55 Danzigerbocht 55.

transformed the ground floor of the iconic , breathing new life into Europe’s first-ever Marriott property as the hotel celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The redesign introduces a sequence of interconnected spaces, each with its own character yet unified through the Great Room concept. From the warm sophistication of the Lobby, M Club and Library to the vibrant Bar TWLV and Dynamic Lounge, every zone feels like an extension of the guest room: intimate, welcoming, and residential in spirit.
Inspired by Amsterdam’s brutalist architecture, layered landscape, and open character, the design features tactile materials, custom furniture, and several curated works by over ten local artists, all linked, by heritage or by choice, to Dutch culture and its creative scene. The result is a refined hospitality experience that brings global and local communities together, blending a strong sense of place with international flair.

We’re excited to share that we’ll help shape an exciting next chapter for , as they move early next year into their largest office yet – a 3,500 square metre space that we’ll design and build to reflect their ambition, identity, and way of working.
Pinely is a tech-driven proprietary trading firm that focuses on building cutting-edge trading infrastructure to compete in dynamic financial markets. Their new home will be in The Pulse, an iconic building designed by and developed by , located in Amsterdam’s dynamic Zuidas business district.
The new office will rise adjacent to the A10 (set to go underground as part of one of Amsterdam’s biggest infrastructure projects), offering sweeping views over both the business district and Buitenveldert.
Designed to support Pinely’s rapid growth and global ambitions, the workspace will feature a vibrant fifth-floor restaurant with panoramic views, lush terraces and game rooms for relaxation, optimised acoustic comfort, and a calming atmosphere where unsaturated colours in the green and light wood spectrum contrast with black, enriched by natural light and abundant greenery.
We’re excited to help bring Pinely’s vision to life and look forward to a great collaboration!

Ever heard of The Great Room?
Designed to bring the family together, The Great Room is a vast multi-purpose space at the centre of a house. Located on the ground floor, it features an open floor plan that encourages connection, allowing people to engage with one another while attending to different tasks.
Marriott recognised the potential of this space and introduced it into their hotels. The Great Room is a concept designed to enhance flexibility in the hotel’s public areas by creating distinct zones within a multi-functional open plan. These adaptable spaces allow guests to meet, work in small groups, or take private moments, accommodating their personal needs, much like they would in their own home.
As the continues to build on its identity, it further enhances its role as a vibrant destination where guests, locals, and city wanderers come together to work, relax, socialise, and celebrate. From the warm elegance of the Lobby and M Club Lounge to the vibrant energy of the Bar and Library, each zone feels like an extension of the guest room, offering a sense of residential comfort and familiarity.
More than just hospitality, the front-of-house areas invite discovery, blending refined service with delightful surprises in an atmosphere that shifts effortlessly from a spirited daytime tone to an elegant, bustling evening vibe.
The playful use of colour, bespoke furniture, and custom art breathes originality into every corner, while a rich palette of materials creates a sleek yet youthful energy. Each detail is thoughtfully designed to feel inviting and inherently sophisticated, cementing the as a true city landmark.

Schola, our internal think tank, thrives on experimenting with new perspectives and ways of thinking.
As Partner and Creative Director at , Francesco Messori leads Schola, testing creative processes across disciplines. Recently, alongside Giulia Cimenti and Elia De Marchi, he brought this mindset to ’s Inclusive Design Lab, coordinated by Prof. Alessandro Biamonti. Together, they guided students from fashion, graphic, product, and interior design through an unconventional challenge: designing a tribe within an office.
Rather than focusing on form and function, the students explored rituals, symbols, and identities, crafting imagined societies with their own cultures, tools, and traditions. The result? Spaces that defy expectation. From dystopian habitats to environments fit for gods, this exercise amplified creativity by shifting perspectives, proving that design becomes more powerful when we break free from traditional boundaries and allow diverse disciplines to collide.
Through collaborations with and , we continue to rethink how spaces bring people together, not just today, but for a future yet to be imagined.

’t Huys, set within , brings the city’s iconic art scene together under one roof, nurturing a dynamic community.
The Van Gogh suite has been crafted to immerse guests in the artist’s mind. Curated reproductions of his works, studies, letters, and handwritten quotes invite an intimate exploration of his thoughts and unique perspective on the world 🎨
The design honours the character of the hotel while infusing contemporary elements. The Yellow Table, with its delicate aesthetics and proportions, pays tribute to Gerrit Rietveld and his architectural vision for the museum building, a structure that stands as a celebration of Van Gogh’s work. The table also symbolises Vincent’s dreamed Yellow House in Arles, a place where artists would come together to work, share, and connect, just as this suite invites its guests to do.
The Gallery, a space for small gatherings, hosts the White Gloves Museum Edition hanging ritual, where a pre-selected piece chosen by the guest is brought to the suite, revealed on the Gallery wall, and displayed in the room throughout their stay 🖼️
The bedroom is inspired by the vibrant landscapes painted by Van Gogh. Ochre organic shapes and the meditative soundscapes by the talented Remko Kühne provide a relaxing atmosphere, while Vincent’s brushstrokes are creatively projected onto the ceiling, submerging the guest in a full-spectrum experience.
A huge thank you to the for trusting with their first-ever branded hotel suite.

The transformation of the public areas at the is underway. As the first Marriott property in Europe, this landmark project is being led by , proudly managing both design and ex*****on.
A sneak peek at the first phase reveals the redesigned Lobby and M Club. These spaces, along with the upcoming Library, Bar, Lounge and Tasting Corner offer a dynamic ground floor experience where guests can relax, work, enjoy a drink and connect. This transformation will also enrich the surrounding neighbourhood by creating a welcoming public space near the renowned Vondelpark.
Our design aims to revitalise an architectural icon by bringing the brutalist character of the building into the interior while blending it with the modern sophistication of the Marriott brand. The result will be a refined, residential environment that embodies premium comfort.
Inspired by the essence of Amsterdam, the project incorporates contemporary interpretations of the city’s iconic bricks, picturesque canals, natural surroundings and spirit of freedom. These influences are reflected in tailor-made pieces, carefully selected finishes and thoughtfully curated artworks.

Multifunctional design is one of ’s areas of expertise. But the last two weeks took it a step beyond, even for us ✨
We used our own office for a product launch, the quarterly ‘Vitality Circle’ event by , bootcamp and yoga sessions, big band rehearsals, two pop-up restaurants, a Sunday school, several private events, a four-day retreat hosted by a Canadian well-being company, and topped it all off with five days of .
In these two weeks, we helped nine companies in achieving their cultural and social goals by offering them space at cost, reduced carbon emissions by consolidating the use of four buildings into one, and still made significant additional revenue by unlocking the potential of underutilised space.
In our humble opinion, we can now officially say we’ve mastered blended-use.
All credit goes to our colleague and ’s venue manager, Nani Naidenova, whose attention to detail truly elevates each experience, making every event feel special and perfectly executed. She has a remarkable ability to seamlessly coordinate a diverse range of events and functions 👏
