I sat down with my son recently and apologized.

Not just a casual “sorry.” A real, deep, from-the-gut moment.

I told him the truth.

Growing up, I felt isolated. Like just another kid in the herd. Unseen. Unheard. And to fill that emptiness? I turned to sweets. Sugar didn’t judge. Sugar didn’t ignore me. Sugar was always there.

And when I became a mom? Instead of breaking the cycle, I repeated it.

I was busy. Distracted. Wrapped up in my own world. And my son? He didn’t get the attention he actually needed. The kind that makes a child feel seen, loved, like they matter.

And guess what? He started doing the exact same thing. Reaching for sweet foods when he felt lonely.

When I told him this, we both cried. He forgave me. Called me the best mom ever. And we made a decision—this cycle ends with us.

A lot of us came here to change the patterns we were raised with. Some of us have already done it. Some of us are still in the thick of it. Either way? It’s not easy. But if you’re in this process—you’re already breaking chains generations before you couldn’t. And that? That deserves to be celebrated.

“She froze. She felt so alone. Really, really lost.” My client murmured, after I brought her into a hypnotic state. Referring to her 2 year old self. “What was happening?” I asked her.

“Her parents were arguing. They were always yelling. Always looking for someone to blame. Her mom was saying it was her fault. She was only two years old.

She decided it wasn’t safe to know things. She closed down her crown chakra. It wasn’t safe to know everything.”

The tears welled up in her eyes and spilled out over her cheeks. My client allowed the grief to finally be felt, from a moment that she had previously frozen in time, which she had never felt safe enough to feel before.

Which one do you resort to usually when you’re triggered?

Recently, I spent all morning slightly panicked. I couldn’t hear my intuition. I had no psychic insights. It was like my radio dial had no “on” switch.

Until a friend helped me realize I was in “freeze mode”. Which was triggered by a conversation prior with someone close to me. The moment I identified “I’m frozen!” The tears could flow, and I was relieved from my intuitive dead lock.

The other day I was at an event and got triggered by something and I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. I laughed at myself and thought, “You’re in flight mode, Robin”.

Once I distinguished it, I was taken back to a memory which reminded me of the present situation, and I could be kind to myself to ease my way out of it.

When was the last time you identified that you were in a trauma response?

Being able to catch myself “in the moment” has enabled me to pivot quickly from being checked-out (physically present but mentally gone) to being able to work through my stuff so I can be present for my life.
