📍🇳🇱 We’re looking forward to attending the EARMA Annual Conference in Utrecht from 5–7 May!

As the flagship event for Europe’s research management and administration community, EARMA brings together professionals from across the continent to exchange insights, discuss shared challenges, and explore best practices shaping the future of research support.

Our colleagues Ketharini S. and Sibi Bos will be there representing Catalyze.

Attending EARMA too? We’d love to connect in person, just send us a message.

This week, Catalyze Group announced the launch of Grantific, a new strategic venture co-founded with Brainial, an AI-native tender platform company.

Grantific is a collaborative platform created to bring expert-backed, AI-powered support throughout the grant process, transforming how organisations access funding.

This is a bold step for Catalyze Group. As innovation work digitises, Grantific extends how we are able to support innovators with our deep grant-domain expertise, alongside our consulting work.

Grantific is built on a unique combination: Catalyze’s 20+ years of experience in European funding and track record of securing €2 billion+ in funding, paired with Brainial’s AI-native automation platform, already trusted by 150+ multinational corporations and proven since 2019 across 70,000+ complex tenders. The result is a new benchmark for controlled, high-quality grant workflows, with Catalyze consultancy expertise available through the platform on-demand.

“Grantific is a major strategic step for Catalyze Group,” says Marlene Végh, Ph.D., CEO of Catalyze, “As innovation work digitises, we continue to lead by combining deep consulting expertise with technology. We are launching Grantific as an expert-led platform designed to scale how innovators secure funding. It strengthens our role as a long-term partner in innovation, extending our impact beyond consultancy while maintaining the quality standards our clients rely on.”

🔬 HoloMorPh is developing a light-driven manufacturing platform for ready-to-use flat optics, for AR and beyond

Led by Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UniNa) / University of Naples Federico II, HoloMorPh was awarded >€3M in the 2025 EIC Pathfinder Open to develop an end-to-end production platform for ready-to-use diffractive optical elements – one of the most common forms of flat optics.

Flat optics are planar photonic components that shape light using micro- and nanoscale surface structures. They can reduce the size, weight and complexity of future optical systems, but manufacturing remains a key barrier to adoption.

Beginning April 2026, HoloMorPh will combine tailor-made light-sensitive materials with meta-optics enhanced holography to enable a process where light itself becomes the manufacturing tool, supported by real-time all-optical metrology, AI and cloud-based software to refine surfaces as they are created.

The consortium aims to advance the technology from TRL 2 to TRL 4, validating the manufacturing platform and lithographic framework by fabricating ready-to-use diffractive optical elements and a photonic device prototype for augmented reality.

“The EIC Pathfinder funding provides not only the resources to implement our ideas, but also a clear framework and a shared roadmap that guides us toward achieving our ambitious goal,” says Professor Stefano Luigi Oscurato of UNINA, HoloMorPh Project Coordinator.

Completing the project consortium are Tampere University (FI), INESC Microssistemas e Nanotecnologias (PT), Universidad de Granada (ES), LusoVU (PT), HOLOEYE Photonics AG (DE), and eLoop (IT).

We are proud to have supported the successful submission, which was awarded in the most competitive EIC Pathfinder round ever with a 2.1% overall success rate.

🩻 Clarity Sensors is advancing photon counting X-ray imaging with their new semiconductors

In June 2025, Clarity Sensors (UK) launched their €2.5M EIC Transition project, PERFORM, to advance their ultra-low dose, high-resolution photon counting X-ray detector, PRISM-X.

Photon-counting CT scanners have been in clinics since 2021, but wider adoption is still constrained by supply and cost bottlenecks in medical-grade semiconductor materials. Clarity Sensors has developed a bulk single-crystal perovskite semiconductor with exceptional X-ray detection properties that is more scalable and cost-effective to produce.

Through PERFORM, they will build a prototype detector module and validate it against the state of the art, demonstrating improved performance and imaging capabilities, and potentially a lower radiation dose.

“We can really accelerate and drive our technology forward with this EIC Transition grant. This is transformative for us as an early-stage company,” says Hayden Salway, Co-Founder & CEO.

We are proud to have supported Clarity Sensors towards their successful submission.

1️⃣ 5️⃣ 🎉 Last week we celebrated Patricia J.W.A.M. Celie's 15 year anniversary at Catalyze!

Patricia has made a huge impact for so many of our clients throughout her career. Over the years, she has gone from writing (and winning) a wide range of Dutch and European grants, to playing a key role in the development our business and strategic consulting services, to now serving as Principal Consultant and our representative to the EIC. We are proud to have you with us Patricia!

Patricia shared:
"I started at Catalyze on a Monday, and by Tuesday afternoon I was already sitting at the kitchen table of a highly respected professor who had the ambition to develop a drug for a disease for which no treatment existed. Today, that drug candidate is in late-stage clinical testing on the path toward approval.

In those early days, Catalyze was a young company too. We worked from a small, homely office in Bussum (NL), alongside just a few consultants and founders, Theodoor & Jalal. Fast forward to today, and we’re an established market leader – ranked among top consultancy firms and recognised as a Great Place to Work.

I’m grateful for the great colleagues, past and present, and I want to thank all the fantastic people I’ve worked with across different companies and in academia. I really value seeing projects, companies, and great innovations evolve into real-life products, on the shelves and in the clinic. I’m looking forward to what the future will bring, and to continuing to support teams with business strategy and attracting finance. Let’s make impact!"
