We’re Hatoun and Dima, a pair of human development professionals living in the Middle East with a vast array of interests, ranging from writing, painting to knitting, putting ikea furniture together and analyzing the impacts of changing socio-economic and political conditions on cultural and gender dynamics in the region. So, when we’re not trying to make the world a better place, we’re most often cooking – and eating, and we’re in a constant search for good wholesome food that nourishes our bodies and tastes great. Hatoun is a little person who is named after rain, blames her nomadic ancestors of the ‘burabah tribe for her constant need for change and relocation, is allergic to cinnamon, hates paper cuts, loves dictionaries, needs her office stationery to be perfectly aligned (mild OCD), and acquired her very own hairbrush at the age of 25 – which she only uses occasionally to get the blood in her head to circulate. Mother of a beautiful and edible child of wisdom, an aspiring cook and writer, professional “eater”, she is henceforth embarking on a grand culinary and artistic adventure with her partner in crime, Dima, towards greater health, happiness and well-being. DIMA
Dima is a bigger person also named after rain, or rather downpour, who gets sudden bouts of itchy fingers that turn into artistic expression, remains hopeful in mankind and progress in spite of everything. When lost, she can be found amongst piles of yarn, needles, paper, paint, bookstores, libraries, or kitchens; she still writes her friends proper letters with fountain pens and stamps instead of emails, reads books and will never buy a kindle, is forever curious about everything and anything and has an insatiable appetite for information. She may eventually transform into a polymath, and is now discovering the wonders of good food with her fellow rain companion and best friend Hatoun, and is hoping to share the secrets to great flavours and health from one of life’s simple pleasures with you. Join us as we discover new healthy dishes from all over the world and share them with you on our food and lifestyle blog Bundle of ‘Kizbara’ (Arabic for coriander and BOK for short). On there, you’ll find recipes for dishes cooked to bring out the best in the ingredients and categorized to suit everyone’s dietary needs. As such, you’ll find many great recipes that are vegetarian, vegan, paleo, low-carb and sugar-free, made out of wholesome or unprocessed, entirely natural ‘real’ food, no preservatives, artificial colorings or sweeteners or anything that comes in a can! Because we believe that good cooking is an art in itself, you’ll find our cooking tips and resources to help you in the kitchen, in addition to ideas to give your dishes and dining tables an extra edge presentation-wise. Finally, since we’re not only about healthy eating but healthy lifestyle, you’ll also find articles about how to adapt your lifestyle to your dietary and health needs and about embracing the specificities of your body. We have struggled – and are still struggling – ourselves with adopting a healthy lifestyle whilst calibrating our work-life equilibrium and will provide tips and lessons learned from our experiences on what to do (and what not to do) to the right balance for you.
