EAUN26: A preview of programme highlights by Mr. Mattia Boarin (IT)

The 26th International EAUN Meeting (14-16 March, 2026 in London, GB) will bring together nurses and healthcare professionals for three days of scientific exchange, clinical updates and structured educational sessions. The scientific programme covers all core areas of urological nursing, with a strong focus on evidence-based practice, innovation in care pathways and collaborative professional development. EAUN26 will equip participants with the knowledge and momentum to advance urological nursing practice locally, nationally and across Europe.

➡️ What's on the agenda
Day one of the meeting will open with a plenary session on the evolution of nursing, highlighting the shift from generalist practice to increasingly specialist nursing roles and how advanced competencies improve patient outcomes and healthcare system efficiency.

State-of-the-art lectures will address crucial topics such as LUTS in men, examining the burden of disease and evolving procedural options, and urinary biomarkers in both kidney and bladder cancer, an area that could redefine non-invasive monitoring for disease recurrence.

The meeting will also spotlight advanced and innovative nurse-led clinical pathways, including fast-track prostate cancer diagnostics, prostate biopsy approaches and nurse-lead endourology and robotics procedures, demonstrating how specialised nursing interventions might optimise perioperative workflow, shorten hospital stays, and enhance safety and patient satisfaction.

Key thematic sessions include shared decision-making in NMIBC, the testicular cancer patient journey, and the psychosexual dimensions of androgen-deprivation therapy, ensuring that nursing care might increasingly integrate holistic, psychosocial and patient-centred principles.

Day two will begin with a plenary session on how lifestyle medicine and digital technologies mitigate risk factors in benign urology, from stone disease to sexual dysfunction, and will equip delegates with tools for patient education, behavioural therapy, and prevention-focused counselling.

➡️ EFUN updates
International exchange will be reinforced by the EFUN session, which will present the rollout status of this global educational framework for urology nursing, jointly developed by EAUN, BAUN, ANZUNS and NZUNS. Its purpose is to define the minimum common standard of knowledge and competencies required for all urology nurses, regardless of country or healthcare system. The framework aims to harmonise education, improve consistency of practice, support career development, and strengthen evidence-based, patient-centred urological care.

➡️ Other highlighted lectures
There will be an interesting session featuring intercultural competence in urological oncology, addressing how cultural values, communication styles and implicit biases shape patient experience, treatment adherence and clinical outcomes. This session will offer practical strategies for delivering culturally sensitive and equitable care.

Day three will begin with a session focusing on the assessment and optimisation of frail urologic patients, equipping participants with essential knowledge on comorbidities, geriatric-specific considerations, and patient-centred decision-making to ensure safe and tailored management.

Additionally, clinical excellence sessions will focus on urgent frontline topics, such as urosepsis, reinforcing updated clinical safety protocols and evidence-based decision-making.

➡️ Hospital Visits
Several Hospital Visits have been organised for Friday, 13 March (day before EAUN26 starts), at Guys and St Thomas Hospital, King’s College Hospital, University College London Hospitals, and Barts Health Hospitals. These are free for delegates to attend and you can register here.

➡️ Annual Nurses' Dinner
On the evening of Friday 13 March, all EAUN26 delegates are invited to the charming garden-inspired restaurant The Folly, where EAUN Chair Corinne Tillier will deliver a keynote address and present the 2026 recipient of the prestigious Ronny Pieters Award. The evening will include a three-course meal and networking opportunities.
