🎯 The real power of neural mobilizations lies in patient selection.

📚 Lascurain-Aguirrebeña et al. (2024) showed they’re most effective for Wainner cluster presentations, but less so in true radiculopathy.

👉 Know the difference, and you’ll treat smarter.

💪 Neural pain in the arm? Not all patients respond the same.

📚 A new meta-analysis by Lascurain-Aguirrebeña et al. (2024) found that neural mobilizations can ease pain and disability in cervicobrachial pain, especially for patients meeting the Wainner cluster criteria.

👉 The key? Subgrouping matters. Neural mobilizations shine for sensitized nerves, but may fall short in true radiculopathy.

How does neurocentric training directly translate into better performance on the field? On the podcast, sport scientist and neurocentric trainer Jannik Schuster explains that training the visual system, depth perception, and peripheral awareness leads to the brain processing information faster, making the game feel slower to the athlete. Crucially, he notes that athletes report an increase in stability and a decreased risk of injury, allowing their system to handle dangerous situations that previously would have resulted in an injury.

‼️ Think you’re collaborating with your patient? Maybe not enough.

📚 A new study by Hacquebord et al. (2025) found physiotherapists averaged only 27/100 on shared decision-making in shoulder care. Many skipped explaining treatment pros/cons or partnering with patients as equals.

👉 Bottom line: small steps like asking “What matters most to you?” and deciding together can transform care.

What is the biggest misconception therapists and coaches have about neuro training? On the podcast, sport scientist and neurocentric trainer Jannik Schuster explains that the mistake is seeing neurocentric training as a separate entity from traditional approaches like strength training.

He clarifies that strength training is inherently neurocentric because it impacts the nervous system and the brain. His vision is for a fully integrated approach that sees the training process as one system, combining the software (the brain/nervous system) with the hardware (the body/muscles).

Discover how to integrate these concepts in your practice. Listen to the full podcast for free on the Physiotutors App, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts!

💪 Surgery or conservative care for cervical radicular pain? Both help, but neither clearly comes out on top.

📚 The CASINO trial (Gül et al., 2025) followed 141 patients over 2 years and found meaningful improvements in arm pain for both groups, with only minor differences in neck pain favoring surgery.

👉 Bottom line: improvement happens either way, but without a well-designed RCT, we can’t say which approach is truly superior.

What exactly is neurocentric training and how is it different from traditional training? On the podcast, sport scientist and neurocentric trainer Jannik Schuster provides the most basic definition: it's an approach that focuses on the brain and nervous system to increase performance or decrease pain.

He explains that while traditional methods—like strength, mobility, and athletic training—focus on biomechanical structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments), neurocentric training addresses the missing piece: the connection between the brain and the body. The goal is to improve the function of specific brain areas and neurological systems.

How can you immediately boost a client's strength and stability during exercises like a squat or a lunge? On the podcast, sport scientist and neurocentric trainer Jannik Schuster explains his strategy of activating the specific neurological systems involved in a movement before performing the strength exercise. He shares that by activating the vestibular system in a targeted way, he's "training the software" (the brain) before the "hardware" (the muscles), leading to increased performance.
