Focus of the Month: Love’s Grief
Grief and love are two sides of the same coin. Inseparable and intertwined. The deeper the love, the deeper the grief. And yet, in our sorrow, we find a reflection of the immense joy we once held.
As the great Sage Patañjali reminds us: vitarka-bādhane pratipakṣa-bhāvanam. When the mind is disturbed, contemplate its opposite. Not to suppress pain, but to recognize that within our sorrow, love still exists. Grief is not just the absence of something. It is proof of what was, of what still resides in our hearts.
Through yoga, we can create space for both. We can hold sadness and joy, loss and love, in the same breath. And in doing so, we expand our capacity for compassion. Towards ourselves, and towards others.
