🔶One of the most frustrating symptoms of PCOS is extra fat in the belly area
It's usually caused by insulin resistance. High levels of insulin can promote more fat storage in the abdominal area.
🔷Not only is this annoying when your clothes are tight in the waistband, but it can be more dangerous than fat in the hips/butt/thigh area.
💥This is because the fat tends to get stored inside around your organs - also called visceral fat. This type of fat increases risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
And even lean people can store excess fat in the belly area.
✨Chronically high levels of cortisol can make it even worse.
And you can't "spot reduce" this fat. So doing 100 crunches a day won't help!
Other causes include genetics.
Now for the good news:
1. You can improve this belly fat, but you have to get to the root of it!
2. This is usually done by improving your insulin resistance, through diet, exercise, adequate sleep. Exercise can really help as well! Studies have shown that cardio and weight training are helpful.
