Noting that most patients with back pain improve with time “regardless of treatment,” the college recommends such remedies as superficial heat, massage, acupuncture or, in some cases, spinal manipulation (chiropractic or osteopathic). For those with chronic back pain, the suggestions include exercise, rehabilitation, acupuncture, tai chi, yoga, progressive relaxation, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

Rotating your working posture has several positive effects both in the short and long term. It's good to be standing about 20 % of your working time. “Children want to move, and they learn a lot by moving their bodies,” Mullender-Wijnsma said in an interview. “Children can also learn by sitting at a table, but they learn more by being active.” This is something the Dutch know well. Other countries -- especially the US and UK -- stand to learn a lot by using the same principles in their classrooms.
