Om 15:25 uur deelt Leo het verhaal achter het CartRevive® implantaat, gevolgd door een presentatie van dr. Roel Custers over de meest recente klinische resultaten bij 46 patiënten, met een follow-up van maximaal 24 maanden.

Het CartRevive® hydrogelimplantaat van Hy2Care® is ontwikkeld om kraakbeenherstel in de knie te optimaliseren. Afgelopen week brachten Nick Breuer en Ana Luiza de Faria Silvéro van Hy2Care® een bezoek aan Carlo Alberti Paggi en Elsa Lauwers van Chiron. Tijdens dit bezoek demonstreerden zij het Hy2Care® CartRevive hydrogelimplantaat en maakten zij tegelijkertijd kennis met Chiron’s IN-Chip (INTELLECTUALS-chip).

Het CartRevive® hydrogelimplantaat is ontwikkeld om kraakbeenherstel in de knie optimaal te ondersteunen. Het bestaat uit twee natuurlijke polymeren die, zodra ze in het kraakbeendefect worden aangebracht, binnen een minuut een gel vormen die het defect opvult.

De IN-Chip is ontworpen om de complexiteit van menselijk gewrichtsweefsel zo realistisch mogelijk na te bootsen. Daarmee maakt het nauwkeuriger testen van behandelingen tegen artrose mogelijk, terwijl tegelijkertijd het gebruik van dierproeven wordt verminderd.

“Deze demonstratie is een waardevolle manier om elkaars technologie beter te leren kennen en te onderzoeken hoe we ze kunnen combineren. Fantastisch om samen met Chiron bij te dragen aan onze missie: het bestrijden van artrose én het terugdringen van dierproeven,” aldus Nick.

Hy2Care en Chiron maken deel uit van het OPZuid INTELLECTUALS Project Consortium, samen met de Universiteit Twente, TNO, Medace en Maastricht University. Dit project wordt financieel ondersteund door Stimulus en de Europese Unie.

Last week, Breuer and Luiza de Faria Silvéro of Hy2Care® visited Alberti Paggi and Elsa Lauwers of to demonstrate Hy2Care’s CartRevive® hydrogel implant, and at the same time, to learn from Carlo and Elsa about Chiron’s INTELLECTUALS-chip (IN-Chip).

Hy2Care’s CartRevive® hydrogel implant is designed to support optimal cartilage repair in the knee. The hydrogel is composed of two naturally derived polymers which, once applied to the cartilage defect, form a gel that fills the defect in about a minute. The IN-Chip is designed to better mimic the complexity of human joint tissue, enabling more accurate testing of osteoarthritis treatments while reducing the need for animal testing.

“This demonstration is a great way to get acquainted with each other’s products and to explore how both technologies can be combined. It is wonderful to collaborate with Chiron in our mission to fight osteoarthritis and to help reduce the need for animal testing.” – according to Nick.

Hy2Care and Chiron are part of the OPzuid INTELLECTUALS Project Consortium together with the University of Twente, TNO, Medace, and Maastricht University. The project is financially supported by Stimulus and the European Union.

Deze maand is Ana Luiza de Faria Silvério, studente Farmaceutische Wetenschappen aan de Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazilië, gestart als stagiaire binnen het Hy2Care® R&D team. Ze gaat meewerken aan het OPZUID INTELLECTUALS-project van Stimulus Programmamanagement

Ana richt zich tijdens haar stage op het verder ontwikkelen en diversifiëren van het Hy2Care ® CartRevive® hydrogelimplantaat. Daarbij houdt ze zich bezig met formulering, karakterisering en methodeontwikkeling. Het uiteindelijke doel is om deze technologie in te zetten binnen een geavanceerd cartilage-on-a-chip systeem: de INTELLECTUALS-chip (IN-Chip).

Voor Ana sluit een stage bij Hy2Care® perfect aan bij haar persoonlijke missie: “Hy2Care ontwikkelt innovatieve oplossingen voor patiënten met kraakbeenschade, met als doel niet alleen pijnverlichting te bieden, maar ook de kwaliteit van leven te verbeteren. Dat sluit volledig aan bij mijn visie op de medische hulpmiddelenindustrie."

This month, Ana Luiza de Faria Silvério, a Pharmaceutical Sciences student at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, joined Hy2Care® as an intern within our R&D team. She will be actively involved in the *OPZUID INTELLECTUALS project of Stimulus Programmamanagement.

Ana’s work will focus on diversifying Hy2Care’s CartRevive® hydrogel implant through formulation, characterization, and method development. The main goal is to apply this technology to a high-throughput cartilage-on-a-chip system, the INTELLECTUALS-chip (IN-Chip).

Ana chose an internship at Hy2Care® as it aligns perfectly with her own mission in life: “Hy2Care focuses on developing innovative solutions for patients with cartilage damage, with the aim of providing not only pain relief but also improving quality of life. This mission aligns with my own view of what the medical devices industry should represent."

“Mijn moeder heeft haar hele leven pijn gehad door artrose,” vertelt CEO Leo Smit. “Het is ontzettend waardevol om iets te kunnen creëren waarmee mensen hun leven terugkrijgen.” – aldus Leo Smit in zijn interview met Brenna Hopkins voor The Lens Magazine van LSI.

Tijdens de LSI-conferentie in Azië deelde Leo het verhaal van Bob (35), die een ernstige kraakbeenbeschadiging had en te horen kreeg dat hij maar met de pijn moest leren leven.
