Decolonizing Global Health isn’t a trend, it’s a necessity.

At our Summer School, we don’t just talk about global health, we interrogate it. We ask: Who holds the power? Whose voices are missing? Who decides what ‘help’ looks like, and for whom?

The truth is: the global health system wasn’t built for everyone. Vaccine apartheid, funding inequality, and epistemic injustice all show us the same thing, global health, as it exists, still wears colonial roots.
But here? We challenge that. We go beyond the buzzwords. We center lived experience, critical inquiry, intersectionality, and real action. We’re not here for virtue signaling. We’re here for structural change.

Day 4 still going strong🔥

We turned up the heat with “Clearing the Air”, a high-stakes simulated debate on medical waste disposal
Delegates from Brazil 🇧🇷, China 🇨🇳, and the Netherlands 🇳🇱 went head-to-head over solutions to air pollution caused by healthcare waste

Facts were flying and so were the tensions👀

As promised, here’s Part 2 of our first day of the educational programme! 📚

After a morning filled with engaging lectures and plenty of coffee, we enjoyed a tasty lunch at the UMCG canteen 🍽️

And the day just kept getting better!!

Renzo Tuinsma led us on a tour that even impressed those of us who thought we knew UMCG inside out! He revealed hidden rooms, shared fascinating stories, and walked us through the history of the place, making us feel truly connected to it 💙
