My journey to Doula Services
A trained midwife I was surprised to discover that my own first birth experience did not go according to my preferences due to lack of support. As I explored options for my second birth I read much that advocated for the use of a doula - a trained birth companion - someone who would be emotionally unattached to events and yet supportive.
After seeing the difference a doula made at my second birth I offered to support friends attempting VBAC and early this year finally had time to do a dedicated Doula Training through the University of the Nations. I will be certified later this year through Global Childbirth Educator Network
As a midwife I loved journeying with women in pregnancy. As a mum (of three small boys) I needed to step away from full-time midwifery work and have found a way to continue to support women in working as a Doula.
