Our New Year’s plunge got canceled… so we turned it into something even better 🌊🔥

We celebrated New Year twice this year: exactly 2 weeks ago on Jan 1, and again on Jan 14 with our Ukrainian friends. Now it really feels like the year has kicked off.

Here’s a recap of Jan 1 at the beach - a true lesson in adaptability.

The first twist: the Nieuwjaarsduik was canceled due to extreme weather. Even with our safety experts from ABZee, it simply wasn’t safe to pursue. So we pivoted.

Instead of a plunge, we found a powerful alternative. Hand in hand, we stepped into the ocean, fully present with the wind, the waves, and the raw force of nature - together.

Then the sauna ritual marathon began, celebrating both the New Year and our 1-year anniversary. With 85 people, we moved through 8 themed sauna rounds: herbal, tribal, old school house, sing-along, poetry, and more.

Second twist: as there was no closing session on the menu, Just jotted down surprise round. When he came out of the sauna Dennis & Julia asked what’s that, you’ll guide it? - dunno, let’s do it together. Total improv, 3 sauna masters and 30 steaming souls - and it went balastic. So much energy. Even more connection.

Third twist: Inside Aloha Beach Club, the DJ kept classic tunes playing all day to keep us warm between rounds. After the final session, we had planned a live house & handpan concert with Reo Matsumoto… but of course, the USB in the CDJs didn’t work 😅 We tried everything. Then we decided: “Let’s go acoustic.” Two handpans. One circle. Brazilian vocals. Pure magic.

From a busy head to a clear mind.

In this video, football player Diogo Tomás goes from a head full of thoughts… back into his body.
Sauna first. Then the ocean. Then quiet.

As an athlete with Finnish roots, sauna has always been a place of returning to the body.
A place where effort ends. Where heat is shared, and presence matters more than words.

Diogo found us, and he loves to return because we built a space just like that.

Now we’re collaborating on a monthly event called:

UNDER HEAT 🔥
A hot sauna ritual held by Diogo Tomás. An invitation to experience sauna this way.
The heat is real. The space is quiet. We move freely, listening to the body, taking the time we need.

Bad weather or just bad preparation?

We got inspired in Sweden by just that. Good preparation. People dressing up for the weather. Enjoying the snow, taking out their snow mobiles or putting some skis on and track to work.

Fire pits all over the place. Local authorities taking care of the supply fire wood. Quite a difference to where we’re at.

Grateful that we are able to bring some of the Nordic lifestyle to the Netherlands. Hoping to inspire some of you to do the same.

Start small. Step outside. See the beauty of life.

We had some of our most beautiful sessions this week.

PS Welcome to enjoy the sauna in snow. We’re open in both Leiden & Scheveningen. This might be the last chance for a while.

How was your first Monday of the year?

While half of the country was upside down, code orange - don’t go out - we started the first Monday connected in the heat. Enjoying the snow. Making snow elves and throwing snowballs.

Contrast therapy makes us more resilient. Soon it becomes easier to handle the heat, and soon you’ll be enjoying the cold days.

Looking forward to step into a 3 degree Icebath, even when it’s snowing outside. Just because you know it feels good. You’re in charge.
