I can’t express the importance of community often enough for support & healing. We’re not meant to go through the most difficult times of our lives on our own.
A long fertility journey with all its challenges and unexpressed emotions and longings deserves a loving community to hold space.

I am happy that our fertility circles have found a new home in Amsterdam at .

To mark the birth of our fertility circle via Parentally, we dedicate the first circle to “A New Beginning”. Our intention is to release the past and embrace a new future together, through sharing, writing, visualization, meditation, and drawing.

You’re welcome to our women’s circle on Saturday, 5 July 2025 at 14.15 at Maison Parentally (Rustenburgerstraat 236) in Amsterdam.

Today the circle is round for the first client I am happy & grateful to support as a fertility doula: Exactly 1 year ago, we had our first introductory call. She wanted to regain her hope and rebuild her trust in her body to become pregnant after failed IUI treatments. We started with a Fertility Discovery Session where we explored where she was, what her options were, and what could support her in her fertility journey. At the end of the week, she confirmed she would like to commit herself to a 4-month Personal Fertility Journey Program. She travelled twice all the way from Amsterdam to Friesland for 2 Fertility Retreats which included fertility massage, healing exercises and rituals. From the moment she started the journey, things began to shift in her life. She was taking care of herself, making changes, feeling into the ups & downs of her fertility journey. We had regular contact in between the retreats and sessions, so that we could work on what was happening in the here & now.

What was also happening was that she was giving herself and her body a break from the fertility treatments. And during one of those ‘pause months’ she got pregnant naturally.

I remember the day she shared the news. I could see her shining! Then a rough start as is common in a fresh pregnancy after a long fertility journey.

I was thrilled that they decided as a couple to continue with me as a birth doula. We just transitioned smoothly and walked through the first excitements & hiccups.

And today I am officially on call for the birth of their baby. I look forward to supporting them through the magical transition to parenthood through birth & postpartum.

And I wish that I support many more women & couples from the dark waters of a fertility journey to a shiny new beginning as parents 🌟

Today, I celebrate my mother.

Today, I celebrate my sister who would have been 40 today if she would have lived.

Today, I celebrate my greatgrandmother who opened her womb to yet another child who become my grandmother after having lost so many children.

Today I celebrate all mothers and all children, including all those who are in our hearts and minds and shape our lives with their presence or absence.

De lente 🌱 - tijd voor een nieuw begin. Al waren de zaadjes van een kinderwenscirkel in Friesland al lang geplant, voel ik nu de vuur om met nieuwe energie in te zetten voor een nieuwe reeks thematische kinderwenscirkeks.

Afgelopen maand heb ik de magie van een kinderwenscirkel geproefd in Zeist en nieuwe cirkels in verschillende locaties zitten in de pijplijn. Maar allereerst thuis in kleine groep.

We gaan de helende magie van een vrouwencirkel combineren met oefeningen uit mijn coaching & healing praktijk.

It was a day when I realized once more how lucky I am to be a witness of so many oxytocin high moments through my work. I had been longing to hold space for a live fertility circle for so long, and today this dream finally manifested itself, thanks to Françoise who said yes to my idea of holding space together.

So thankful for all the stories that were shared, all the hearts that opened, just being together as women in a circle is healing in and of itself.

The circle is born. More will follow. 🥰

Met .nl doe ik vanavond mee met een . Het is vandaag de lente-equinox. De lente staat voor nieuw leven. Hoe mooi om juist vandaag een mooi rondje te maken langs al die mooie momenten van Nieuw Leven ❤️ Prachtige foto’s van mij en mijn gewaardeerde collega’s uit Nederland & België.

Dit is mijn Nieuw Leven foto omdat ik het zo bijzonder vond om dit mooie gezin te fotograferen waar een baby zo veel geluk bracht: voor een moeder die nu na zo veel jaar opnieuw moeder werd, voor een grote broer die zo genoot van zijn klein zusje en zijn moeder ondersteunde. De liefde was zichtbaar en tastbaar op elke foto, zoals deze van de moeder met haar grote zoon en klein dochtertje. Nieuw leven, nieuw begin, nieuwe liefde ❤️

SHARING, FERTILITY, and GRIEF

One of the saddest parts of a long fertility journey is the feeling of loneliness, the feeling of standing alone with a problem noone seems to face in our closest circles. Being an expat adds an extra layer to This feeling.

Coming together in a circle of women is like coming home. We sit, listen, and feel together. We feel lighter as we experience we’re not alone.

Not alone in our losses, our hopes, our fears.

As we come to a place where we can grieve together, we let go and make space for a new beginning.

You’re welcome to join our first joint fertility circle on Saturday 12 April 2025 in Zeist. We start the afternoon with a grief ritual facilitated by me and continue with a guided meditation facilitated by Françoise.

We’re happy that the first women have already registered, and we look forward to holding space for all who feel called to join.

SHARING My Journey, My Path, My Story

I have shared my personal fertility journey in bits and pieces, here and there, but this ongoing journey of exploration has taken me deeper and deeper to my roots. The story is mine; the story is my mother’s, my grandmother’s, my great grandmother’s, and of countless women who share a history of loss and grief.

It was a big step and honor to share this story in the podcast of Françoise, with whom we share a purpose, a researcher’s eye and passion to search deeper and further, and a willingness to share our experiences and wisdom with other women who face fertility challenges.

May this story inspire anyone who needs it to walk their path, their own personal journey. It is a foggy road, just like today in Luxwoude. We walk one step at a time, dig a little deeper with everything we dare to look into. Welcome to the path of healing. And thanks to my ancestors and all other women who have accompanied me in this path. ✨

De Sporen van een Fertilteitstraject
met de auteur van het boek ‘Zonder verwachting’

Verhalen over kinderwens en fertiliteitsuitdagingen zijn zeldzaam. Zonder verwachting is zo ‘n boek dat op mijn netvlies kwam via een artikeltje in de Libelle. Kort daarna heb ik Eveline persoonlijk ontmoet. Toen ze op Instagram een stukje uit haar boek voorlas was ik meteen teruggeworpen in de geschiedenis, naar toen wij zelf in het fertiliteitstraject zaten. Een tijdje daarna ontving ik mijn door Eveline gesigneerd exemplaar van het boek en was ik geraakt door de pure verhalen en scherpe observaties van haar kinderwensverhaal.

Nadat ik het boek uit had heb ik Eveline uitgenodigd voor een Insta Live gesprek over haar boek. We gaan tijdens dit gesprek dieper in op de sporen van een fertiliteitstraject, die vaak pas veel later naar boven komen. Eveline vertelt hoe ze hier nu, twee jaar na de behandelingen, op terugkijkt. Wij zijn allebei overtuigd dat de verborgen verhalen over kinderwens gedeeld mogen worden en dat fertiliteitstrauma’s geen taboe meer moeten zijn.

Als je niet zo bekend bent met het concept van doula ondersteuning, lijkt het je misschien wel duur. Het wordt immers over het algemeen als pakket aangeboden. Maar als je je echt verdiept in wat dat pakket en de ondersteuning inhoudt, kom je achter dat het dubbel en dwars waard is.

Want laten we wel wezen, in onze huidige wereld kunnen soms zelfs ons meest dierbaren familie of vrienden ons niet kunnen ondersteunen wanneer we ze het meest nodig hebben. Afstand, drukte of onkunde. Het is allemaal begrijpelijk maar jij hoeft er niet onder te leiden.

Want je Doula is er wel voor je! Ze is er tijdens een hele periode die je haar nodig hebt. Continu ondersteuning betekent dat je haar ook tussen de afspraken door dingen kan vragen. Je kan op haar leunen als er iets onverwachts gebeurt.

Een Doula werkt holistisch en kijkt naar jou fysieke, mentale en emotionele welzijn. Ze denkt niet in hokjes maar kijkt naar jou als persoon, naar je wensen en behoeftes.

Dat is 100% persoonlijke ondersteuning op maat. Je bent geen nummertje. Er zijn geen vaste methodes. Jij staat centraal.

En dit is ook wat je zeker kan gebruiken tijdens een zwaar en vaak langdurig fertiliteitstraject. Alle hoop en tranen delen, voelen dat iemand met je meeleeft en meevoelt. Een grote zus die er voor je is, met verstand van zaken ook nog! Wat wil je nog meer?

Sometimes you need to rock bottom before you see the light. Like in the transition phase during birth (see 📷).. Your body is crying out loud to get the baby out, and you feel like you can’t take it anymore. That is the sign that birth is nearing.

And so it is with a fertility journey. After trying for so long and disappointment after disappointment, you feel you just can’t take another drop of all this # #. There, if you stay there for a little moment and manage to cry it out or shout it out or whatever works for you to release all the misery, you will see the light.
