Making an impact — that's what 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is all about. In a nutshell, it's the process by which you make sure that your research and ideas make a 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in society. Take a new healthcare service that makes processes more efficient and sustainable, for example, a campaign that encourages healthy behaviour, or innovative medical solutions such as diagnostic tests or surgical instruments.

De lokale betrokkenheid bij de wetenschappelijke en technologische ontwikkelingen rond de Einstein Telescope maakt onze regio steeds populairder bij wetenschappers en technici. Het Big Science Business Forum brengt die twee werelden bij elkaar in het MECC Maastricht, van 27 tot en met 30 oktober 2026.
Jan Visser van BigScience.nl neemt de organisatie op zich, professioneel ondersteund door het Maastricht Convention Bureau en de Klinkhamer Group.

Hij studeerde biologie in Nijmegen. Altijd al was er de interesse in genen en genetica, hoe vanuit erfelijk materiaal het leven ontstaat. Waar gaat het mis bij erfelijke ziektes? Wat is het genetisch defect? En hoe voorkomen we dat het generatie op generatie wordt doorgegeven? De diagnostiek-codes voor veelvoorkomende maar ook voor zeer zeldzame spierziektes lijken nu veelal gekraakt. Maar genezen? Een levensreddende behandeling?

Bert studied biology in Nijmegen. He's always had an interest in genes and genetics: how life forms from genetic material. Where exactly are things going wrong in genetic disorders? Which genetic defect causes them? And how do we prevent these disorders from being passed from generation to generation? The diagnostic codes for both common and extremely rare muscle disorders appear to have been cracked by this point. But where do we stand on a cure, or life-saving treatment?

Afgelopen donderdag organiseerden wij de Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus Winter Drinks. Meer dan honderd leden van de campus-community genoten van een hapje en drankje bij het altijd gezellige Bandito Espresso.

Een perfect moment om terug te kijken op het afgelopen jaar vol met innovatie en spannende ontwikkelingen op en buiten de Campus. Hartelijk dank aan alle aanwezigen voor de gezelligheid.

Last Thursday, we hosted the Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus Winter Drinks. More than a hundred members of the campus community enjoyed drinks and snacks at the always welcoming Bandito Espresso.

It was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year, packed with innovation and exciting developments on and off campus. A huge thank you to everyone who attended for the wonderful atmosphere.

Of jij je nu in de vroege ontwikkelingsfase bevindt of al richting marktintroductie werkt: inzicht in de waarde, kosteneffectiviteit en impact van een medische technologie is cruciaal. Investeerders, zorgverzekeraars en ziekenhuizen verwachten steeds vaker een onderbouwde Health Technology Assessment (HTA) voordat ze besluiten om verder te gaan met een innovatie. Een HTA is niet zomaar een verplichting achteraf, maar een strategisch instrument dat helpt om slimmer te ontwikkelen, de juiste keuzes te maken en verspilling van tijd en middelen te voorkomen.

Daarom organiseerden LIOF, Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus en Maastricht UMC+ afgelopen donderdag de interactieve workshop:
