🏃‍➡️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽!

1 in 2 people will face cancer in his/her lifetime. Do you want to do your part for a good cause? Participate in the sixth edition of the Run to Fight Cancer on Sunday, May 3 and join them in making a difference in the fight against cancer!

The Run is organized by a group of 8 motivated students who volunteer all year to fight cancer. All proceeds will go to Kankeronderzoekfonds Limburg at the MUMC+. Everyone can participate, young, old, student or not. This year you can walk 5km and run 5km, 10km or a half marathon! It will take place at the Geusseltpark in Maastricht. Last year more than 200,000 euros for cancer research were raised, so they could really use your help!

Sign up as an individual or with a team, and raise money for this important cause. If you cannot participate in the run, it is also possible to donate.

Poepdag is in het leven geroepen door het MDL Fonds om de relatie tussen ontlasting en gezondheid te benadrukken.

Onze darmgezondheid en ons welzijn zijn nauw met elkaar verbonden. Van het beïnvloeden van ons immuunsysteem tot ons humeur en zelfs ons gewicht. Dankzij InnerBuddies op de Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo maken miljoenen mensen wereldwijd de juiste voedingskeuzes om de microben in hun darmen optimaal te laten werken.

InnerBuddies verbindt de laboratoria van zorgverleners en organisaties in ‘Health & Wellness’ aan een wetenschappelijk gevalideerd online platform om snel en secuur het darmmicrobioom van mensen te analyseren en te koppelen aan een gepersonaliseerd voedingsadvies. Op basis van een vragenlijst over de leefgewoonten, een opgave van de voeding van de voorbije drie dagen, en, jawel: een poep-sample. Zo weet je precies wat je moet eten om je darmen blij te maken. En jezelf dus ook.

InnerBuddies maakt onderdeel uit van Brightlands, de innovatiegemeenschap van Limburg. Samen werken we hier aan doorbraken op het gebied van circulariteit, gezondheid en veiligheid, in de meest internationale regio van Nederland.

Letterlijk innovatie zonder grenzen. Met onze Brightlands Campussen als broedplaatsen waar ondernemers, wetenschappers en studenten praktische oplossingen ontwikkelen voor ingewikkelde vraagstukken.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘁? A single drop of tear fluid can reveal over a hundred different substances, including biomarkers that indicate the presence of diseases such as Alzheimer's or Huntington's. Marlies Gijs, a biochemist at Maastricht UMC+ , is achieving a world first with her research.

Just like blood, tears can tell us a great deal about our health. But collecting a droplet of tear fluid with a small strip of paper is far less invasive than a blood draw, or a lumbar puncture, for that matter. Together with Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus, tear doctor Marlies Gijs is working on securing the patents from her research, and ultimately on developing a self-test for tear analysis.

Marlies Gijs is part of Brightlands, Limburg's innovation community. Together, we work on breakthroughs in circularity, health and safety, in the most international region of the Netherlands.
