The last chapter from Gerald’s PhD thesis made it to pubmed. The work described in this article was based on the MSc project from Floor Fasen, who was supervised by Gerald. We investigated the brain functional networks of children with Childhood Absence Epilepsy, and it was published in our frequent journal: Neuroimage Clinical. Enjoy!

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32387851/

While cognitive impairments are not generally considered to be part of the childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) syndrome, some recent studies report cognitive, mainly attentional, deficits. Here we set out to investigate the whole brain functional network of children with CAE and controls. Furthermore,....

Very happy with this one, after inspiration from Vera Keil at the 2015 ISMRM, we are now able to show the merits of the spectral diffusion analysis in disease:
Spectral Diffusion Analysis of Intravoxel Incoherent Motion MRI in Cerebral Small Vessel Disease https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/jmri.26920

It took some perseverance, but our spectral IVIM work in cSVD has finally found its home in JMRI 😉

Another high impact factor (>13) one: Prediabetes Is Associated With Structural Brain Abnormalities: The Maastricht Study http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/early/2018/10/10/dc18-1132

OBJECTIVE Structural brain abnormalities are key risk factors for brain diseases, such as dementia, stroke, and depression, in type 2 diabetes. It is unknown whether structural brain abnormalities already occur in prediabetes. Therefore, we investigated whether both prediabetes and type 2 diabetes a...

Abnormal Blood Oxygen Level–Dependent Fluctuations in Focal Cortical Dysplasia and the Perilesional Zone: Initial Findings https://t.co/HHb0taJ2Hk

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Focal cortical dysplasia is a common cause of intractable epilepsy for which neurosurgery is an option. Delineations of a focal cortical dysplasia lesion on structural brain images may not necessarily reflect the functional borders of normal tissue. Our objective was to deter...
