Team Ocean ROWED the Pacific for a reason!

☑️ 2,133 nautical miles. 4 people. 6 liters of ‘home made’ drinking water a day , produced using a water makers.

💧 If we can clean the Seine for three days of swimming… what’s next? 👀

Three historic days of swimming in the Seine during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have sparked a much-needed global movement: to make urban waters clean, safe, and accessible for all.

This week, Rotterdam took center stage as host of the Summit, where experts, advocates, practitioners, and decision-makers came together to catalyze a new wave for urban swimming.

As Wavemakers United, we were honored to both open the event—led by Oumaima Ouaissa—and close it with an inspiring message from van der Vaart.

We also hosted two moderated sessions on water literacy, featuring Tilly Stroo and Lucas Vroom (Municipality of Rotterdam). Together, we sparked dialogue - mostly about wast accessibility for all means - and shared concrete ideas. One big takeaway?

➡️ Start simple: Even if your city has never done it before—just try, test and learn cause we need to adapt now!

The summit was just the beginning.
We expanded our network, connected with global water professionals, and left inspired by the energy of this growing movement. And we’re especially excited that this work won’t stop in Rotterdam.

🚀 What’s next?
We’re partnering with the Municipality of Rotterdam to give guest lectures at local schools, raising awareness around clean urban water and access. Even more: we’re making Swimmable Cities a core focus across all our Waves moving forward.

Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

We’re just getting started!

Wavemaker Emma Gavrilov wins Wetskills Indonesia 2025! 💥💧

During the Netherlands–Indonesia Economic Mission , several teams of talented students and young professionals worked on a problem solving water related case. Emma, student from HZ University of Applied Sciences (Global Project & Change Management), won their case together with her team!

The winning case was created by case owners
PDAM TIRTANADI SUMATERA UTARA , WaterWorX and Water Footprint Implementation , who offer companies a practical and credible way to offset their water use while contributing to sustainable water management. These projects focus on identifying and repairing leaks and
inefficiencies in the water supply system, leading to significant reductions in water losses and
improved available of water resources.

Their case therefore was;
“how can we attract investors to invest here in Semarang and make our offerings more appealing”?

Meinke van Ginniken , Special Envoy for Water of the Netherlands had the honour to award the winners!

Congrats Emma and Team! let’s work towards implementation of sustainable water management!

🌊 Another big milestone for Wave Indonesia! 🌍

We’re thrilled to share that the Wave of Indonesia is expanding and we’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with our partner IPB University (Institute Pertanian Bogo) - to strengthen collaboration on education, research, and youth engagement around global water challenges.

This partnership focuses on co-creating impactful programs, including:

🔹 Summer courses

🔹 Guest lectures

🔹 Student mobility initiatives

🔹 Village-based research

🔹 Joint educational modules

But that’s not all!

On June 16th, during the Netherlands–Indonesia Economic Mission, together with chariman of Wave Indonesia Sabrina Farah Salsabilla we also hosted a roundtable session to explore how Wave Indonesia can strengthen youth connections and shape the next Gamechanger Challenge for the UN 2026 Water Conference. The focus: unlocking inclusive, game-changing water solutions.💡

Meanwhile, Emma Gavrilov, a student from (Global Project & Change Management), is currently in Indonesia representing Wavemakers United in the program. The finals and award ceremony were integrated into the trade mission. Emma inspired youth, partners, and government representatives to explore future collaborations with the Wavemakers United Foundation.

All part of our journey on the in the UAE!

Together, we’re empowering the next generation of water changemakers through impactful international cooperation.

Huge thanks to our partners:

Today, just one day before the finish line, Wavemakers United joined the Scheldt River Walk, an extraordinary initiative by !

This incredible 30-day journey covers 360 km, from the source of the Scheldt to the North Sea, uniting citizens, students, farmers, mayors, and more – all standing up for the future of clean and healthy rivers . 💧

Our participation today was a powerful reminder of what the Foundation quoted earlier this month:

“Change is never a solo effort. It happens when we stand together, lift each other up, and keep moving forward as one.”

We couldn’t agree more and that’s why Wavemakers United, part of theTauw Foundation Dream Project, joined the Scheldt Walk today.

But our contribution doesn’t stop here today! Tomorrow at the we will celebrate the finish of this the River Walk by a presentation and we are already counting down for the in Rotterdam in June!
(You can still sign up as volunteer! (Link in bio)

Together, let’s keep creating awareness to protect our rivers, our future, and our youth.

One mission. One collective effort. 🌊💙

Wavemakers United envisions a future where clean, safe, and sufficient water is globally accessible ! 👊

We support the growth of global movements for transforming urban water ways and accelerate waterway restoration and water quality.

Together with the Swimmable Cities and Drinkable Rivers foundation, we aim to transform urban and rural water systems into safe, clean, and sustainable resources for recreation and consumption. Inspired by success stories like the Seine in Paris (swimmable) and citizen-led drinkable river initiatives in Europe, this integration seeks to build a unified framework to scale these concepts globally.

This joined movement to transform urban and rural water systems is the legacy of our 3rd ‘Future is Now’ event, hosted last summer during the Paralympic Games in Paris.

From the 22 of April until the 23rd of May Li An Phoa, Drinkable Rivers will be doing the river walk, starting from the source of the Scheldt all the way to it's mouth in the North sea. A total of 360 km!

And guess what!? You can join! Don't worry, you can also join for a part of the route! Of course some of our Wavemakers will be joining and we would love you to join and hope to see you along the river!
