The Ashram was started four years ago by Viktor van der Kleij. Every year people from around the world come to learn about
and participate in living a healthy and holistic yogic lifestyle. The Moving in Awareness (MIA) ashram is located at the Lotus Garden Retreat Centre in the heart of the tranquil Knysna Forest, South Africa. The ashram is a safe and peaceful p
lace where one can follow a traditional yogic lifestyle that encompasses Asana, Pranayama, Seva, Kirtan (chanting and singing), meditation, study, an organic vegetarian diet, and deep relaxation. The retreat centre is ecologically built using sustainable concepts to create awareness on how to live in harmony with nature. The MIA ashram provides integrated teachings that are not restricted to the meditation hall. Rather, we aim to provide practical tools that give a greater understanding of the holistic nature of existence and provide a sense of belonging. This integrated learning incorporates organic gardening, water harvesting, sustainable building, and recycling among other activities. Seva, or selfless service (Karma Yoga), forms an essential part of the daily ashram experience. We strive to grow most of our own foods and provide knowledge on how to prepare wonderful vegetarian dishes. The remote location, with its lush forests, pristine rivers and waterfalls and nearby sandy beaches, is great for hiking and secluded swims. This environment lends itself perfectly to quiet contemplation, deep rest and inspiration. The ashram schedule runs daily from 28 December 2014 to 15 May 2015 with a 4-day minimum stay required to receive the most benefit. The daily rate is R350 per person, which includes accommodation in the form of simple yet comfortable wooden cabins and wholesome vegetarian meals. Teachings are provided on a donation basis, making the path available to all. Discounted rates are offered for participants who stay for one month or more. A 50 percent deposit is required to secure your booking. Donations for the teachings will be accepted at the end of your stay. Beginners and advanced practitioners alike are invited to participate and deepen their understanding of Yoga and discover the self. Aside from the regular ashram schedule, exciting courses and events will also be offered throughout the season.
