Waren vorige week in Kilosa, een groot dorp niet ver van Morogoro Tanzania. We hielpen er jongeren met albinisme. Bijna allemaal Low Vision patiënten. Volgende week Ifakara en daarna Dodoma, de hoofdstad van Tanzania.

Hello everybody, today is World Sight Day, it's 2020. Last year at World Sight Day we made some 1500 people happy with spectacles in Morogoro, Tanzania. Today we are at Mvomero, Tanzania, a rural place where many people suffer from leprosy, a terrible disease. We are taking the necessary precautions of course, but it's not easy. Improving sight is our focus.

Binnenkort gaan we aan de slag met fase 5 voor de cacaoboeren in Ghana. De armste bevolkingsgroep daar. Dit gaat in samenwerking met Faculteit Optometrie van Cape Coast University. Since early this year we have a Low Vision clinic in Tanzania. The equipment was donated by Bartiméus Blind Institute and the logistical costs were covered by Liliane Fund both of the Netherlands. Our first attention was for people for albinism. See the pictures.
Sinds begin dit jaar hebben we een Low Vision kliniek in Tanzania. Beeldschermloupes e.d. werden gedoneerd door Bartiméus Blindeninstituut Zeist en de vrachtkosten werden betaald door het Liliane Fonds te 's-Hertogenbosch. Onze eerste aandacht ging uit naar mensen met albinisme. Zie de plaatjes.

Last week it was World Sight Day. I am now in Tanzania. WSD has been spread over a number of days in connection with the expected turnout. In Morogoro on Saturday October 12 and Sunday 13 some 1500 patients were seen. Their eyes were checked and if need be they were sent home with a free pair of glasses and medication if needed. Lions Club Dar es Salaan signed for the organisation together with M-Bet and other local organizations. Focus on Vision donated a few hundred spectacles. A free lunch was there for the hundreds of people waiting in line in the rain. Quite an event.

Last week it was World Sight Day.
I am now in Tanzania. It has been held on different days because of the high turn out. In Morogoro on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October some 1500 patients were seen whose eyes were checked free of charge. If needed they received free spectacles or medication. Lions Club Dar es Salaam and M-Bet were the major organizers. Focus on Vision donated a few hundred spectacles. There was heavy rain. A free lunch was offered to the long lines of waiting people. It was a big happening.

News from USA/MEXICO. Our friend Gordon Mendenhall is finishing up a weeks long mission to Nogales Mexico. He uses FOV glasses plus others to serve the best solution to correct the eye vision for the family of the attached pictures. On this trip he went with 50 pairs of FOV glasses. May be an interesting story to tell that we work in anyway to help others solve their vision problems. The pic of the family tells a story. The mom got a tape-ducted compilation of lenses to get to about -7.5. The daughter had needs for FOV glasses. Dad got some basic readers, and the son was 15 with special needs got a pair of -3.00 from I-Tech group in Florida. This family is very poor and none had previous glasses.

Na allerhande problemen in de haven van Dar es Salaam zijn de door Bartimeus Blindeninstituut gedoneerde beeldschermloepen en de door het Liliane Fonds gesponsorde vrachtkosten eindelijk, eindelijk ingeklaard en bezorgd in Morogoro, waar we een Low Vision kliniek aan het inrichten zijn. Onze vertegenwoordiger aldaar, Mw. Lillian Mujemula en ik troffen elkaar vorige week in Nairobi om de puntjes op de "i" te zetten. Hier gaan we ook samenwerken met Sight Savers International: de handen ineen geslagen.

Vandaag zijn we begonnen met fondsenwerving voor fase 5 van ons sinds 2008 lopende project in Ghana onder cacaoboeren en hun gezinnen. Fase 4 hebben we net andermaal in een professionele en succesvolle samenwerking met de faculteit optometrie van de Universiteit van Cape Coast afgerond. We hebben nu zo'n 10.000 gezinnen gezien. Er zijn 800.000 cacaoboeren in Ghana, de armste bevolkingsgroep van Ghana. Dus een grandioze uitdaging. From today we are starting up a new fund raising campaign for phase 5 (!) to help cocoa farmers and their families in Ghana. We shall check their eyes, provide free glasses and medication when needed. Please donate through our website www.focus-on-vision.org. We have already seen and assisted some 10000 families. There are 800,000 cocoa farmers in Ghana, the poorest lot there. So there lies a big challenge still. Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Ben weer in Kenia en reisde rond van Kisumu en Eldoret en nu in Nairobi. Op de foto sta ik in een dorp dat Bodi Kolunje heet en zelfs niet op de Google kaart staat. Hier heb ik net een inleiding gehouden over het belang van goed zicht.
