The program for the upcoming Big Hand Event 2023 is out. This special event will have 7 amazing speakers who are experts in their fields.

The event will have four engaging sessions:
Session 1 - Learning about wrist complaints and how they are treated.
Session 2 - Understanding flexor tendon issues and the anatomy of the PIP joint.
Session 3 - Exploring osteoarthritis of the thumb and orthoses for the forearm and elbow.
Session 4 - Discovering treatments for pain and nerve pain through somatosensory rehabilitation.

We have requested accreditation for specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and plaster technicians.

This year, Big Hand Event 2023 is breaking new ground as we proudly announce the inclusion of a presentation by a skilled and experienced Plaster Technician Mr. Jan de Koning, a true master of his craft, from the Maxima Medisch Centrum Veldhoven and Eindhoven.

The presentation is titled “The Use of Casting Room Innovations – One Size Doesn’t Fit All.” Jan will share his extensive knowledge and expertise in both Plaster Room and Emergency Care, gained from working with Trauma, Ortho, and Plastic Surgery cases.

During the presentation, Jan will emphasize the significance of properly applied casts or splints, particularly in the early stages of Hand Injuries. He will discuss two essential braces, namely the Pro- and Supination Brace and the Flexion Extension Brace, both of which can be custom-made.

Big Hand Event 2023 is excited to announce the participation of Prof. Pierluigi Tos, an esteemed authority in the field of hand surgery, at the Big Hand Event on September 22, 2023. Prof. Tos is affiliated with the Hand Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery Department at the Orthopaedic Institute, Gaetano Pini - CTO hospital in Milan, Italy. It is a great honour to have him as a part of our event.

Prof. Tos is actively involved in various facets of hand surgery and holds the prestigious position of President of the FESSH Hand Trauma Committee.

During the event, Prof. Tos will deliver two captivating presentations focusing on tendon injuries. He will emphasize both acute repair and the management of subsequent issues requiring tendon tenolysis.

We eagerly anticipate Prof. Tos sharing his extensive knowledge and insights with us. His presence will undoubtedly elevate the event to new heights.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Freek Lötters, a distinguished researcher, hand-/physical therapist, and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Leiden, will be presenting at this year's Big Hand Event.

His presentation will focus on the perceived functional impairments in patients with nonspecific chronic wrist pain and the impact of a sensorimotor control-based exercise program (SMoC) on lightening these impairments.

Freek has previously been affiliated with the Hand & Wrist Center in The Hague, further enhancing his expertise in this area. His groundbreaking study, involving over 100 patients with non-specific chronic wrist pain, delved into the effects of a sensorimotor controlled-based exercise program. We are excited to hear Dr. Lötters share some promising results from this study at the Big Hand Event. Additionally, he will provide valuable insights into the specific patient profiles that can benefit most from this exercise program.

Confirmed speaker at Big Hand Event 2023: Karin Boer-Vreeke (OT, CHT-NL, ECHT)

Karin will present on somatosensory rehabilitation for allodynia at the Big Hand Event. Allodynia is a condition where people experience pain from touch. Many individuals worldwide suffer from neuropathic pain, particularly touch-induced pain or static mechanical allodynia. Patients with neuropathic pain often feel disconnected from the affected body part for extended periods.

Karin is associated with the Hand & Pols Centrum in The Hague and has served as the president of the Dutch Society for Hand Therapy from 2013 to 2021. She currently holds the position of President of the European Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy. Karin completed somatosensory rehabilitation courses in Fribourg, Switzerland, and is now a certified somatosensory therapist for pain (CSTP).
