A 39 year old man suffering from OCD: “In the first few days of the rTMS treatment I felt noticeably calmer. After 3 weeks of treatment my anxiety levels had reduced by 70% and my obsessions were less intense. After 4 weeks of treatment I was able to resist compulsions. I recommend rTMS as an effective treatment for OCS, which brought me real results as the treatment progressed, and Bram provided excellent support and advice throughout the process."

What does an intensive rTMS treatment comprise of?
At rTMS International we offer you the possibility of following a complete rTMS treatment in a short period of time. We call this program our intensive rTMS program. During a period of two weeks or more, you will be able to receive one or even two treatments per day. It is possible to follow a less intensive course of treatment by spreading out these sessions over an extended period of time, for example, six weeks.

Would you like to know more about our intensive treatment? Read more on our website or get in contact with us. 📞

One frequently asked question about rTMS: Is rTMS safe❓

RTMS is a safe and scientifically based treatment for depression and compulsion. The treatment is given briefly and intensively and then supplemented with cognitive behavioral therapy for the best results. For twenty minutes, magnetic pulses are delivered to the brain while at the same time you are talking to one of our practitioners. These pulses cause certain parts of the brain to be stimulated while others are muted. This leads to better communication between the different parts of the brain and ultimately reduces the symptoms of depression. RTMS will not lead to brain damage. The FDA in the USA has found rTMS to be a safe treatment method.

EXPERIENCE WITH RTMS: ELLEN'S STORY
RTMS as a treatment for depression is becoming increasingly well known. Because of this, more and more people start with rTMS treatment. For more than three-quarters of clients with depression who receive rTMS treatment, the treatment works. One of these clients is Ellen. Ellen is 51 years old and suffers from severe depressions. At the beginning of July 2019 she started rTMS treatment with rTMS specialist Petra van Assen. Read more about her rTMS experience and how she is doing now. ➡️http://ow.ly/MGpa50xaB3W

Constant worrying in your head, tossing and turning in bed - worrying can cost a lot of energy. Yet there is such a thing as 'worry well,' says Professor Ad Kerkhof. Ad Kerkhof is a psychologist, professor of clinical psychology and writer of the bestseller 'Piekeren'.

"Fortunately, 'worry well' exists: you are briefly worried about the future. And that can be quite useful, because it encourages action. For example: the fear of rejection can lead to good preparation, for a job interview. Kerkhof: “Peak thoughts arise because someone feels threatened by a problem. If you come to a solution by worrying, it is a form of self-protection. But if you do this too often, self-protection becomes self-torment."

Recent neurostimulation techniques, such as rTMS and transcranial direct current stimulation (tdcs) are potential treatment alternatives for children and adolescents.

Bram Wernsen, founder and initiator of rTMS International: "It is of course exciting, a first rTMS treatment," That is why parents are always welcome to attend a treatment if the child feels safe with it. In addition, the rTMS specialists will always clearly explain what they are going to do and how a treatment works.

"What is an Electroencephalogram (EEG)?" 🔽

An EEG is a method in which electrodes are placed on the head by means of a swimming cap to map your brain activity. Any deviations are noted by the EEG. The EEG is therefore used to determine if you have brain activity that could be dangerous to stimulate with magnetic brain stimulation. This is only the case with any epileptic activity. If the EEG shows that this is the case, a neurologist must first be consulted before treatment can be started.

To make a good EEG use is made of conductive gel. After the EEG as much gel as possible is removed but a remainder will remain visible. Washing your hair at home once ensures that all the gel is gone.

rTMS uses magnetic pulses to stimulate certain areas of the brain. Through this stimulation, communication between brain areas improves and depression or OCD related complaints disappear. But when do you know if the rTMS treatment works for you?

It is different per person what is visible in terms of effects at the start of treatment. Our rTMS specialists often hear from clients that rTMS treatment gives a free feeling in their head. For example, anxious thoughts can still occur, but clients are less affected by this after rTMS treatment. In addition, it can give rest and the clients dare to engage more in daily life. The gloomy feeling of depression becomes less comprehensive.

At the end of 1990 rTMS was introduced as a treatment for depression. Since then much more information has become known about rTMS and more research has been done into it. For example, it has been established that rTMS is a safe method that, for a large proportion of clients, contributes to reducing depression and/or OCD complaints. But what are the benefits of rTMS? Annemiek Breshamer, specialist at rTMS International, explains:

✅ The brain can be reached without an operation.
✅ rTMS ensures a long-term renewed balance in the brain.
✅ rTMS is the beginning to feel good again because of the new balance people experience more space in their heads and as a result this makes them end up in a positive spiral.
✅ There are hardly any side effects with rTMS.

About rTMS International

rTMS International was founded based on our many years of experience with the positive results of rTMS and our ambition to make rTMS accessible to as many people as possible.

A depression or compulsive disorder is a chemical imbalance in the brain. This results in certain areas no longer working well together (anymore). We use rTMS to influence the way in which these brain regions work together, providing positive results.

More than 70% of clients with depression and 60% of those with an obsessive compulsive disorder benefit from rTMS. Complaints decrease on average by 75% in the case of depression and by 60% in the case of a compulsive disorder. Treatment with rTMS has hardly any side effects. Some clients experience a mild tension headache after a treatment which will go away by itself.
