Today is World Diabetes Day
🔹 Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease where the pancreas fail to produce enough insulin. insulin is a hormone that regulates the Blood sugar levels lifestyle disease.
🔹 Types of Diabetes are:
~Type 1 or juvenile/ childhood diabetes/ autoimmune disease
~Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (most common and can be controlled and reversed if in early stages)
~Gestational Diabetes: Diabetes occurring during pregnancy
🔹 Symptoms of Diabetes develop over a period of time and become noticeable at a later stage. These are:
~Increased thirst; polydipsia
~Increased urine; polyuria
~Increased hunger; polyphagia
~Tendency to acquire infections easily
~Delayed wound healing
~Weight loss
~Vision affection
🔹 Complications of diabetes are:
~Heart related diseases, stroke and arterial affections
~Retinopathy, affecting the eyes and vision
~Neuropathy, affection of nerves, causing tingling, numbness and loss of neural senses
~Nephropathy, kidneys are affected
~Increased chances of acquiring skin infections, delayed wound healing
~Dementia
