Had two amazing CPR lessons in Bonaire. A local health center needed a refresh of BLS. I adapted my Dutch NRR (ERC) CPR lessons and added some Bonairian info (phone 912, drowning victim etc), they added the flair.

I never knew the recovery position (stabiele zijligging) can be topped of with a smack on the chanchan 😂

Currently I am residing in Bonaire for work. After a few months it is officially COVID free and I can do what I love:

“Show people that everybody is able to make a difference in saving a life.”

They were great students and worked seamlessly together.
It does not mather where you a from or what is your occupation. Early CPR saves lives!

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES REGARDING CORONA/COVID

The Dutch resuscitation council advices the following in case of CPR, summary:

- no mouth to mouth to ADULTS
- children CPR stays the same due to low risk
- only LOOK if someone is breathing (check their chest/maybe put your hands on it...)
- are you in the high risk group or do you feel sick? Do not perform CPR but call.
- maximum 2 people are helping, 1 performs cpr. Other one is standing at the side of the feet.

- Geef geen mond-op-mond beademing meer bij volwassenen;

Today I would like to introduce something not related to CPR.

Starting from Fridays course, I will add how to recognize a stroke. A stroke can be treatable if there is a quick and adequate response.

In emergency medicine the heart, brain and lungs have the first priority. With CPR you try to revive someone who has problems with the heart or the lungs.

To recognize a stroke try to remember the acronym FAST, which stands for:
F(ace) = does one side of the face droops?
A(rm) = is there a weakness in one of the arms?
S(peech) = is someone's talking strange?
T(ime) = when did it start? Time to call!

This is how you can save someone's (quality of) life!!!

Yesterday I had a great CPR course. It made me realize how special it is to have people with such different backgrounds coming together for a common goal, to try and help people. We even had someone join from Berlin because I am one of the only ones providing this registered course in English on the mainland of Europe. This was a good start to 2020!

Even though it was scary at first for some, all of them managed to become officially registered to perform CPR and AED by the ERC and NRR. Are these wild acronyms for you? Come and join my course to learn what they mean and to try save a life effectively!

Thanks to Astghik for making pictures!

Two small updates:
Soon I will be able to teach CPR anywhere in the world. For example in an office, at the beach or in a sports club.
I already have a projector screen, iPad and connectable manikins. I am still waiting for my new portable projector.

I contacted the refugee service in Utrecht with my idea to provide free-of-charge CPR lessons. I am awaiting reply.

Twee kleine updates:
