💡 Symposium spotlight │ Cardiovascular and Renal

Few connections in medicine are as critical - or as complex - as the one between the heart and the kidneys. At , this symposium brings that relationship into focus, exploring how cardiovascular and renal systems interact in both physiology and disease. From shared risk factors to overlapping mechanisms, understanding this axis is essential for advancing patient care.

🎙️ Led by invited organisers Sofia Pereira and João Pedro Ferreira, with ESCI Council members Gemma Vilahur and Luca Liberale, this session reflects ESCI’s commitment to tackling clinically relevant challenges through multidisciplinary research.

If your work touches cardiometabolic health, systemic disease, or translational approaches, this is a conversation you’ll want to be part of. Explore the full programme and register via our website: https://barcelo.eventsair.com/QuickEventWebsitePortal/esci-2026/web ✍️

💡 Symposium spotlight │ Mitochondria: Physiology and Pathology

Mitochondria are often introduced as the cell’s energy source - but in clinical research, their role goes far beyond that.

At , this symposium explores how mitochondrial function and dysfunction contribute to disease mechanisms across multiple fields. From metabolic regulation to cellular signalling, understanding these processes is key to advancing translational research.

🎙️ Led by invited organisers Paulo Oliveira and Paulo Gameiro, with contributions from ESCI Council member Mariusz Wieckowski, this session reflects ESCI’s focus on connecting fundamental biology with clinical application.

If your research touches underlying disease mechanisms, this is a discussion worth being part of. Explore the programme and register: https://barcelo.eventsair.com/QuickEventWebsitePortal/esci-2026/web ✍️

Lisbon is getting closer - have you secured your place yet?

As preparations for continue, now is the time to start planning your participation. Whether you’re presenting your research or attending to stay at the forefront of clinical investigation, Lisbon will bring together a community focused on advancing science with real clinical impact. At the Annual Scientific Meeting, you’ll have the opportunity to:
✅ Engage with cutting-edge clinical and translational research
✅ Connect with peers and experts from across Europe
✅ Take part in discussions that move science closer to patient care

More updates - including abstract decisions - will be shared soon.

What happens after you hit “submit”?

Behind the scenes at ESCI: abstract evaluation is actively underway - with reviewers across Europe carefully assessing each submission for scientific quality, relevance, and clinical impact. 🔬

Every abstract is read with attention. Every decision contributes to shaping a programme that reflects the strength and diversity of clinical investigation today.

This is where Lisbon begins to take form - not just as a location, but as a meeting of ideas, disciplines, and perspectives. 🧠

📬 Notifications will be shared soon. Until then, thank you for contributing to this year’s scientific dialogue.

Not everyone enjoys networking. That’s completely fine.

At ESCI, collaboration doesn’t belong to the loudest voice in the room - it often starts with a thoughtful question. 🧠

If you’re joining and don’t consider yourself a “natural networker,” here’s what actually works in a scientific setting:
• Ask one meaningful question after a session
• Follow up with a short, specific message
• Introduce yourself to a speaker whose work aligns with yours
• Connect on LinkedIn the same day while the conversation is fresh

Small steps can lead to joint projects, shared datasets, and long-term collaborations across Europe.

isn’t just a meeting, It’s a room full of people working on questions similar to yours.

Clinical investigation is where questions become better care. 🧠

Behind every improved diagnostic tool, every refined treatment strategy, and every updated guideline lies rigorous clinical research.

At ESCI, we stand for science that connects mechanisms to medicine. Research that does not remain confined to publications, but informs decisions in clinics, hospitals, and healthcare systems across Europe.

Clinical investigation matters because patients are not statistics. Because disease is complex. Because translating evidence into practice requires collaboration across disciplines. 🧬

For nearly six decades, ESCI has supported clinician-scientists working at that intersection - bridging bench and bedside with clarity, precision, and purpose.

If you believe research should ultimately improve patient outcomes, you belong in this community. 🤝

A strong congress doesn’t happen by accident.

Behind stands a dedicated team of clinicians, researchers, and organisers working quietly - and rigorously - to shape a programme worthy of Europe’s clinical investigation community.

From the scientific committee reviewing abstracts with precision, to the organising team coordinating every detail in Lisbon, months of preparation are already in motion.
✅ Countless submissions evaluated.
✅ Sessions carefully curated.
✅ One shared objective: uphold the highest standard of scientific exchange.

When you join , you’re not just attending a meeting - you’re stepping into a programme built with care, expertise, and commitment to translational excellence.

We look forward to welcoming you in Lisbon! 🤝

The submission window has closed. The real work begins.

Abstract submissions for are now officially closed - and we’d like to thank everyone who submitted their research. Here’s what happens next:
✅ Peer review process: all abstracts will undergo careful evaluation by our scientific reviewers to ensure quality, relevance, and scientific rigour.
✅ Notification timeline: authors will be informed of acceptance decisions in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on your inbox.
✅ Registration reminder: if your abstract is accepted, timely registration will be required to confirm your presentation in Lisbon.

The programme for is already taking shape - and we look forward to welcoming Europe’s clinical research community from 3-5 June. 🤝

Prediction is powerful - but only if it reaches the patient.

At , our Pre-Course Meeting will explore one of the most pressing challenges in cardiovascular research: how do we translate risk models into real clinical impact?

🗓 Pre-Course Session: From Prediction to Clinical Practice: Tools and Impact of Cardiovascular Risk Modeling

➡️ Organised by members of the ESCI Young Research Council, this session brings together expertise from Cambridge to Athens, Hamburg to Tashkent - reflecting ESCI’s truly pan-European network of clinician-scientists.

Risk modelling is no longer theoretical. The question is how we validate it, apply it, and ensure it meaningfully informs patient care. If your work touches cardiovascular risk, predictive tools, or translational methodology, this session belongs in your programme.

📍 Join us in Lisbon and be part of the conversation that connects models to medicine.

Who represents the next generation of clinical investigators at ESCI?

The Young Research Council does - and we’re looking for new members. This is more than a title. It’s an opportunity to actively contribute to ESCI’s direction, propose initiatives for young researchers, and help shape the Annual Scientific Meeting from the inside.

If you’re an early-career clinician-scientist with a strong scientific profile and the motivation to engage beyond your own research, this is your chance to step forward.

A little more time can make a big difference.

Good news for researchers planning to present at : the abstract submission deadline has been extended to 19 March, 23:59 CET. 🎉

We know how much work goes into preparing strong research - refining the question, sharpening the methodology, and presenting results clearly. This extension gives you the extra time needed to make your submission count.

By submitting your abstract, you’ll have the opportunity to:
▪️ Share your findings with Europe’s clinical investigation community
▪️ Contribute to discussions that bridge bench and bedside
▪️ Connect with researchers and clinicians from across disciplines

If your work advances understanding in clinical or translational science, we want to see it.
