We’ve been advancing clinical investigation in Europe since before man walked on the moon. 🌕

Founded in 1967, the European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) began with one goal: bring clinicians and scientists together to understand disease at its core. Since then, we’ve published research that shaped medical thinking, supported generations of investigators, and created space for science to move forward - across borders, disciplines, and decades.

From our journal, the European Journal of Clinical Investigation (EJCI), to our Annual Scientific Meetings hosted across Europe, ESCI has always been about collaboration, curiosity, and progress.

Follow us to stay close to the research, the people, and the ideas that define ESCI. 🔗

What role can a scientific society play in the world of BioTech and MedTech startups? 💬

For Dr. Deeksha Malhan - a member of ESCI’s Young Research Council - the answer is clear. As part of the R&D team at TimeTeller, a BioTech startup in Hamburg, she brings a translational mindset to entrepreneurship, bridging innovation and clinical relevance.

➡️ In our latest interview, Dr. Malhan shares how ESCI supports her dual path - combining scientific discovery with startup development - and why young researchers with entrepreneurial ambitions can benefit from being part of a society like ESCI.

Great research deserves more than publication. It deserves recognition.

The ESCI Research Awards celebrate outstanding clinical science published in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation (EJCI) - work that moves the field forward, connects disciplines, and answers questions that matter.

Every year, the ESCI Council selects winners in two categories:
🥇 Best Original Article
🥇 Best Review Article

It’s not about citation counts - it’s about impact, clarity, and relevance to clinical investigation. These awards highlight what ESCI values most: rigorous science, clear communication, and meaningful contribution.

🎙️ What are the three dimensions shaping the future of clinical and translational research?

We recently sat down with Prof. Paula Macedo, Vice President of the ESCI Council, to talk about her vision for the field - and why complexity, collaboration, and curiosity remain essential to progress. In this thoughtful conversation, she introduces her theory of three dimensions that are defining today’s biggest challenges - and opportunities - in clinical investigation.

From mentoring the next generation to refining ESCI’s strategic goals, Prof. Macedo reflects on the balance between experience and innovation in research leadership.

🎥 Watch the interview to hear her insights and learn more about where ESCI is heading next.

A new year doesn’t erase the questions - it gives us space to ask better ones.

As we begin 2026, ESCI and EJCI remain grounded in what matters most: advancing clinical investigation through shared knowledge, meaningful collaboration, and rigorous science.

To our members, authors, reviewers, and partners: thank you for pushing the boundaries of what we know - and how we care.

We look forward to another year of discovery, dialogue, and research that matters. Here’s to the challenges, the breakthroughs, and the next generation of clinical science. 🥂

In science, we often measure everything - but some things are meant to be felt, not tracked.

To everyone in the ESCI and EJCI community - members, mentors, reviewers, authors, editors, and collaborators: we hope this season offers you something rare in clinical research… Time.

Time to rest. Time to recharge. Time to be fully present - with the people and places that matter most.

Thank you for everything you’ve contributed to science, discovery, and dialogue this year. We’re proud to share this mission with you - and we look forward to continuing it together in the new year.

Warm wishes from all of us at ESCI & EJCI. 🎄

Some health challenges can’t be solved with one number - and obesity is one of them.

Earlier this month, ESCI hosted the webinar “Beyond BMI: Precision Approaches, Emerging Tools & Translational Strategies in Obesity” - an initiative from the PAS GRAS project and a call for deeper, more human-centred approaches to obesity research.

🎙 With contributions from leading researchers across Europe, including Prof. Paulo Oliveira, Dr. Onno Holleboom, Prof. Alex Miras, Dr. Harsh*tha Shanmugam, Prof. Leonilde Bonfrate, and Prof. Piero Portincasa, the event brought together ESCI’s interdisciplinary community around one shared goal: better care through better science.

If you’re planning your 2026 calendar, block these three days now.

ESCI’s Annual Scientific Meeting will take place in Lisbon, June 3 to 5, 2026 - and if you’ve never been, here’s what to expect:
🔲 Conversations that don’t happen anywhere else: from translational research to mechanisms of disease, this isn’t just a conference - it’s a gathering of the minds shaping clinical science across Europe.
🔲 A platform for new voices: poster sessions, abstract presentations, young investigator awards - if you’ve got work to share, there’s a stage for it.
🔲 A city that knows how to host science: Lisbon has been a hub for knowledge for centuries - and in 2026, it’s where ESCI’s scientific community will meet to look forward.

📍 Save the date. We’ll be sharing more soon.

A scientific society isn’t just about papers, grants, or meetings - it’s about people with a vision.

In her role as President of the ESCI Council, Dr. Gemma Vihalur isn’t just overseeing operations - she’s helping shape the future of clinical investigation across Europe. In this new interview, Dr. Vihalur shares her goals for the next two years, the importance of bringing disciplines together, and how ESCI can continue to support researchers at every stage of their journey.

Her vision is clear: build a society where science is collaborative, translational, and rooted in clinical relevance.
