Newsletter November - 24 solar term - Beginning of Winter


Start of Winter is the 19th solar term in the traditional Chinese calendar, falling on November 7th. As the cold winter approaches, healthy individuals should focus on “nurturing and conserving” energy. This includes going to bed early, waking up later, and ensuring adequate sleep, which helps to preserve vital energy (yang qi) and store essential essence (yin essence) for the season. So, how can one practice good winter health care?

1. Dispel Heat and Nourish Yin In terms of diet, it is important to dispel summer heat and clear internal heat while consuming foods that nourish yin and moisten the lungs. Suitable foods include sesame, glutinous rice, japonica rice, honey, loquats, pineapples, dairy products.
2. Regulate the Spleen and Stomach Regulating the spleen and stomach should focus on clearing heat, promoting dampness elimination, and strengthening the spleen to expel the internal damp-heat through urination, thus promoting the recovery of spleen and stomach functions.
3. Emphasize Nourishing Yin and Replenishing Deficiencies Autumn is a good time for nourishing yin and replenishing deficiencies.

“立秋”是二十四节气中的第十三个节气。立秋养生要注意调理脾胃、防秋燥,下面我们来看看立秋养生的一些注意事项。

1、宜祛暑滋阴

饮食上应坚持祛暑清热,多食用一些滋阴润肺的食物。可适当食用芝麻、糯米、粳米、蜂蜜、枇杷、菠萝、乳品等柔润食物,以益胃生津。另外,多吃豆类等食物,少吃油腻厚味之物。

2、调理脾胃

调理脾胃应该侧重于清热、利湿、健脾,以使体内的湿热之邪从小便排出,促进脾胃功能的恢复。

3、着重养阴补虚

秋天正是养阴补虚的好时节。如果呼吸浅短,声音低微,神倦懒言,动则汗出,食欲减少,舌质淡就属于气虚体质。用黄芪、党参、西洋参沏水喝。

如果颧面潮红,口燥咽干,盗汗,尿少而赤,大便秘结,舌红少苔就是阴虚的体质。可以用麦冬、五味子、山药、百合等,熬粥的时候可以放几味。
