Dr. Kitty Bloemenkamp is one of the Course Directors of the Global Surgery & ObGyn Summer School. She is a professor of Obstetrics & Maternal Health and additionally chairs the Wilhelmina Childrenโ€™s Hospital Birth Center. Her clinical and academic career spans several countries including the Netherlands, the UK, Zimbabwe, and Ghana.

Dr. Kwaku Asah-Opoku is a Senior Specialist Obstetrician-Gynaecologist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana, where he heads the Reproductive Health and Family Planning Unit. In addition to his clinical work, he serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School. Dr. Asah-Opoku has authored numerous publications and actively contributes to global scholarship as a peer reviewer for leading international journals.

Dr. George Chilinda is a Gynecological Oncosurgeon in the Gynecological oncology unit of the Blantyre Cervical Cancer Project. In addition to training junior doctors and medical students, he also contributes to national cervical cancer guidelines, training programs, and policy development, making a significant impact on women's health in the region.

We are proud to introduce Elisabeth Kabuthi as one of the expert speakers at this yearโ€™s Global Surgery & OBGYN Summer School!

Elisabeth Kabuthi is a Senior Medical Social Worker, Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS), and Pediatric Palliative Care Provider, working at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Her work centres on the emotional, developmental, and psychological well-being of hospitalised children and their families.

As Program Coordinator of the Sally Test Child Life Program, Elisabeth leads efforts to improve pediatric psychosocial care. She actively engages in palliative care ECHO platforms in Kenya and additionally volunteers with The TEARS Foundation as a Sibling Grief Facilitator, supporting bereaved families through loss.

Meet the Speakers

We are proud to welcome Dr. Peter Reemst as one of the expert speakers at this yearโ€™s Global Surgery & OBGYN Summer School!

After completing his training as a Tropical Doctor, Dr. Reemst worked in Kenya for several years before specializing in general and trauma surgery, and later in surgical oncology, breast cancer, thyroid, and colorectal surgery in the Netherlands.

Since 2000, he has dedicated himself to volunteer surgical work in LMICs including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Congo, and India. As of 2019, he works as a freelance surgeon, focusing on humanitarian, war, and rural surgery and continues his commitment to global surgical care in areas such as Orkney, the Falklands, St. Helena, and Uganda.

Donโ€™t miss the opportunity to learn from Dr. Reemstโ€™s wealth of experience in global surgery.
