ON MY WAY HOME
MY Mind – Between Movements and Stillness
As I sit with the waves of departure, I cannot help but witness the play of the mind. Patanjali speaks of citta vrittis — the movements, fluctuations, patterns of thought that ripple across the lake of consciousness. They can lift us into clarity or pull us into restlessness.
In these days, my mind feels like a place of double belonging. Part of me longs for the familiar space of my yoga studio in the Netherlands — the community, the energy, the grounding of teaching. Another part resists leaving behind what has become home here: my love, our dog, and the beauty of this place. Two directions, one heart.
Patanjali invites us to study this science of the mind. Not to suppress or deny the vrittis, but to observe them, to inquire into their roots, and to remember that beneath them lies something unshaken — pure awareness. Yoga is not about choosing one world over another, but about realizing the stillness that remains when the mind quiets.
So as I board the plane, I bring the Yoga Sutras with me. Once more, I dive into his timeless words, letting them remind me: I am not the push and pull of thought. I am not the longing or the resistance. I am the witness — steady, vast, and free.
