Cherry International Foundation A unique way of using non-formal education within European subsidised projects: the Cherry way. Our methods are non formal learning and learning by doing.

After many years participating and being involved in international events through other organizations, we decided to create our own Foundation. Collaborating with other organizations is always helpful for the process of learning and for gaining experience, but it also means that we are limited somehow. The name Cherry derives from the word cherish, which means "care and hold on something dear". Th

at is exactly how we feel about every project (or event) we organize: protect/hold/care about it! We create a perfect mix between content and service delivery to our participants and partners. It means that people learn spontaneously by participating in activities, being faced with particular situations/issues for which they need to find a solution, as individuals or as a group. Our aim is to implement international events throughout Europe and when possible all over the world, involving youngsters coming from deprived backgrounds, mainly those from rural areas. Our vision is to give people the chance to discover their potential in order to create a better world. Our mission is to keep organizing youth exchanges, trainings and other projects related to European programs.

This week the National Agency for European Solidarity Corps came to visit us 🇪🇺.

We are always very pleased to open our doors to them, it creates a more personal touch between the subsidy and organisations.

Besides, this is a moment to discuss all the matters concerning our current projects and way of doing things 💭, and checking if there’s something to improve.

We are very glad to mention that the meeting went great. The National Agency was very pleased with our practices and our honesty even with less nice situations we gave during our volunteering projects or in general.

The NA also wanted to speak to our volunteers, who also felt very valued wanted to be heard by the subsidy program ☺️. We also told them to be honest to tell whatever they felt telling the NA, after all, it is their right.

After talking to our current 3 volunteers they told us to keep up the good work 🥹. This is always a touching moment as an organisation, it confirms the choices we make are worth all our work and approach of doing things.

We are very thankful that our National Agency takes the time to come personally to our office.

⏳ Timescape – Journey Back Home ⏳

The last day of the outdoor and the way back to the accommodation is always the final push of this journey.

This time, after quite a long walk back to Ermerzand, led by our team members, they could cool down with a water fight, reach the portal, and successfully return to the accommodation. The day ended with a traditional barbecue and a bonfire with s’mores, where we could all spend the evening together, look at the stars, and share outdoor stories with each other ⭐️✨

National evenings is an old tradition we do on exchanges and a chance for every national team to represent their country. This year we had participants from France 🇫🇷, Hungary 🇭🇺, Poland 🇵🇱, Czech Republic 🇨🇿, Italy 🇮🇹, Spain 🇪🇸, Estonia 🇪🇪, and the Netherlands 🇳🇱. During the exchange, we had a chance to enjoy lots of national dances, snacks, drinks, and games from each country ✨

⏳ Timescape – Outdoor Experience ⏳

Outdoor is a core activity of many Cherry youth exchanges, yet every exchange has its own unique version of this experience. For Timescape, the outdoor started in a more introspective way: participants were split into pairs and trios and given the task of finding the rest of their team, who were dropped somewhere around the province of Drenthe.

Each participant also received the “Time Traveling Journey” – an individual task to reflect on their past, present, and future. In this way, they had the chance not only to work in teams and cooperate with each other, but also to take some alone time for self-reflection and personal growth.

We were also thrilled to receive so many pictures and videos from their outdoor journey. Even without any technology, they still found a way to capture these moments and share them with us 🙌🏻

⏳ Timescape - day 3 ⏳

This day was all about being in the present.
How to face and solve problems, how to take accountability for one’s own actions, and how to overcome one’s own fears. All these questions came up throughout the activities, and participants had the chance to put this knowledge into practice right away, using theatre and open-space activities.

In the end, everyone took a small step towards a new approach to their current life situations. 🕰️
