Om inspirasjon! Det hun skrev! ❤️
I often get asked - how do I keep my enthusiasm for practice?
The answer is: I don't.

That's why I'm not going to lecture you about the need to show up, even when uninspired (🤦🏼♀️ I mean, you're still here, aren't you?) ... Nor am I going to tell you that it's not possible to become bored in a practice we can never be proficient in (I've been bored by many things I've only scratched the surface in - including Ashtanga!)
No. The real problem isn't that we lose our enthusiasm or get bored - it's that we expect we won't or shouldn't.
How do you excite someone who is always excited? How do you ever become interested in anything if you're always interested in everything? People don't quit because they are bored or unenthused - they quit when they are too accustomed to being interested and excited. Because they can't tell the difference anymore.
Here's the deal: everything is a cycle. It's supposed to be. As teachers, the worst thing we can do is constantly dress the practice up to entertain - or beat ourselves up when we yearn for the same. It is what it is.
A friend who had practiced many years quit Ashtanga I imagine for all of the above reasons. But after many more years, he's back - and with ridiculous and envious enthusiasm. Because that's the cycle. That's how it goes, extremes must balance out. So I expect even his reborn love will dull in a few more years only this time, he will have already experienced the full circle and will now understand, this isn't the end, it's a natural continuation. That spark will make its way in again, and that will be more than enough. He won't need a fire. It took me quitting more than once to understand this merry-go-round - but then again, I'm a slow learner. 😉
Bottom line, feeling uninspired is normal and healthy. Always feeling inspired is an ALTERNATIVE REALITY or (as they say) FAKE VIEWS. You see, as it turns out, the Truth isn't always what we want.
