๐จ APPENDICITIS โ A Common Surgical Emergency
Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix and is one of the most common causes of sudden abdominal pain requiring surgery. Early recognition and treatment can prevent serious complications.
๐ Common Signs & Symptoms
โข Pain starting around the navel and later moving to the right lower abdomen
โข Loss of appetite
โข Nausea and vomiting
โข Mild to moderate fever ๐ค
โข Abdominal tenderness (especially on the right side)
โข Pain that worsens when walking, coughing, or moving
๐ฉบ Diagnosis
Doctors usually diagnose appendicitis through:
โข Careful clinical examination
โข Blood tests showing increased white blood cells
โข Ultrasound or CT scan of the abdomen
โข Urine test to rule out other causes.
Management & Treatment
The main treatment is Appendectomy (surgical removal of the appendix). This can be done by:
๐น Open surgery
๐น Laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive with faster recovery)
Antibiotics and supportive care are also important before and after surgery.
