We’re happy to continue delivering our fMRI applications training!

Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, for an fMRI training session. The hospital is planning to use the NNL equipment for intraoperative fMRI procedures.

Therefore, we covered all essential theoretical aspects as well as hands-on training. This included fMRI data acquisition from volunteers and patients.

It’s exciting to see fMRI becoming increasingly integrated into clinical practices.

We look forward to seeing Masaryk Hospital actively using fMRI in their clinical routines.

P.S. A special mention goes to the nordicComfortSolution, an add-on to our fMRI Essentials System. This solution can be used for any kind of MR exam. It provides relaxing content to patients during MR scans as well as enabling the operator to observe the patient.

Small Changes That Make a Big Difference in MRI Comfort

MRI scanners can generate noise levels up to 135 dB, which may contribute to patient anxiety and discomfort. Implementing effective acoustic noise reduction strategies can significantly improve the scanning experience. It may also enable some patients to have a scan who, without this technology, would not be able to tolerate the scan.

Hearing protection solutions, such as a combination of properly fitted earplugs and noise-reducing headphones, help minimize noise exposure.

Advanced audio systems that provides high quality audio enable real-time adjustments to soundscapes, offering personalized comfort for patients.

Music and sound masking provide a more calming environment, reducing stress and distracting patients from MRI Scanner noise.

Reducing acoustic discomfort in MRI is essential for improving patient experience and scan quality. A better patient experience results in a faster patient throughput, with fewer interrupted or aborted scans, and fewer rescans due to motion artifacts.

Accurate timing is crucial for getting reliable fMRI results. One of the challenges in fMRI is synchronizing stimulus presentation with MR image acquisition.

The SyncBox, being our first marketed product, takes care of synchronization and helps you focus on the MR acquisition. It integrates with several stimulus presentation software, allowing direct control from the software you use.

With NNL SyncBox, you get a simple, reliable solution for precise stimulus timing and easy access to timing data for analysis.

If you have questions about our SyncBox and its applications, feel free to reach out.

We are delighted to have delivered another fMRI applications training, this time at Klinikum Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Austria, where the NNL fMRI Essentials System is installed on their Ingenia Elition 3T X.

The training focused on clinical aspects and comprised both theoretical and hands-on parts including fMRI data acquisition. Several topics were discussed such as MR protocol setup, patient instruction, and fMRI paradigm selection.

We would like to thank Philips for all the support they provided during this training and look forward to seeing the growing application of clinical fMRI at Klinikum Klagenfurt.

We are delighted to see that following a period of consultation, the Best Practise recommendations from the OHBM Working Group on clinical fMRI language mapping have been published in their final form!

This is a powerful and thought provoking document written by global experts, providing practical evidence-based advice with plenty of interesting supporting information covering the complexity of linguistic processes that should be considered when probing language function.

Covering everything from technical requirements, clinical indications through to paradigm selection, scanning, processing and reporting, we can thoroughly recommend this publication as a resource for novice and experienced users of fMRI.

One of the main themes that stood out was the need to adapt to your patient. There are many things that can be done to give each and every patient the best chance of completing the exam. For us at NNL, it is nice to see that we are aligned with many of the recommendations made here, but we see there is still room to evolve our products and paradigm offerings to be even more adaptable.

We would like to thank Natalie Voets and her many co-authors for initiating this project and seeing it through to publication. Incredible!

You can read an abridged summary here in Aperture Neuro: https://apertureneuro.org/article/128149-consensus-recommendations-for-clinical-functional-mri-applied-to-language-mapping
